3 Great Pokemon Legends: Z-A Side Missions You Definitely Shouldn’t Skip

The first downloadable story content for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, called Mega Dimension, will be released on December 10th. Even without this new story, there’s still a lot to do in Lumiose City with various side missions and challenges. While you don’t have to complete every side quest—some can be time-consuming with unclear rewards—a few are truly excellent and worth checking out.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A is packed with side quests – a total of 119! These range from simple tasks like locating specific Pokemon to more involved missions, such as caring for unwell starter Pokemon. With so much to do, it can be hard to know which side quests are most rewarding. Here are three fan favorites you won’t want to miss. I’ll give you a general idea of why they’re great and where to begin, but I won’t reveal too many details to keep the experience enjoyable.

3) Investigating with Shuppet (Side Mission 066)

If you wish Emma’s detective agency offered more investigation work, the “Investigating with Shuppet” side quest is a must-do. It involves helping a police officer find a Shuppet to assist with their job. But the quest truly gets interesting after you deliver the Shuppet. Many players consider this lighthearted and charming side quest to be one of the best parts of Legends: Z-A.

You can begin this optional quest after completing the main story’s twentieth mission. Once that’s done, go to the Blue District and find Rancun, a police officer stationed close to Bleu Plaza, and speak with him.

It’s a good idea to have an extra Shuppet saved in your Pokemon Boxes before you start, so you can quickly move on to the main part of the process. You can find Shuppet in Wild Zone 7 or Wild Zone 15, but remember they only appear at nighttime.

2) Goodbye, Gengar (Side Mission 118)

If you enjoy touching stories in Pokémon games, don’t miss the “Goodbye, Gengar” side quest. It continues the story of the Gengar you helped during the Rust Syndicate mission and is beloved by fans for its emotional impact. To fully experience the story, be sure to revisit the building one last time after completing the quest – you won’t be disappointed!

To start this optional quest, you’ll need to meet a couple of requirements first. You must be at least on Main Mission 39 and have finished Josee’s Training (Side Mission 117) at the Justice Dojo. After that, return to the Old Building in Bleu Sector 8 – the same place where you completed the Rust Syndicate Mission during the main story.

You’ll find an NPC named Ganger here. If you’ve completed the necessary requirements, you’ll see an exclamation point above his head, indicating a new side mission. Talking to him will start a unique, unmissable side quest in Pokemon Legends: Z-A—it’s a story about the connection between people and their Pokemon, and he needs your help finding Gengar.

1) Spewpa in the Museum (Side Mission 021)

Okay, so this little questline is seriously adorable! It’s a great excuse to check out the museum in Lumiose City, and it’s the only way to get the Marine pattern for Vivillion in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The museum has some really cool backstory about Pokemon from older games, but honestly, even if you don’t care about collecting all the Vivillion patterns, this quest is just so charming, you should do it for the fun of it!

You can begin the Spewpa in the Museum quest pretty early in the game. Just reach Main Mission 08 to unlock the ability to move around the city. After that, go to the Rogue District and go inside the Lumiose Museum.

To start the quest, talk to the characters near the painting to the left of the front desk. Then, you’ll need to find all 12 Spewpa hidden throughout the museum – get ready for some adorable encounters!
