After a four-year gap, Eiichiro Oda’s popular manga series One Piece was once again the best-selling manga of the year. First published in 1997, One Piece gained a massive following thanks to its detailed world, engaging characters, and intriguing storylines. With over 516 million copies sold worldwide, it’s the best-selling manga series ever. While it consistently topped yearly sales charts, One Piece faced competition from newer titles. It first reached number one in 2000 and remained there until 2005, when it was surpassed by the manga Nana. Death Note then took the top spot in 2006. One Piece regained its position and held it for over a decade, until Demon Slayer became the best-selling manga in 2019.
While series like Jujutsu Kaisen and Blue Lock have become incredibly popular and even surpassed it in sales some years, One Piece is currently the best-selling manga series. Recent rankings from Oricon show One Piece has sold approximately 4.21 million copies this year, making it number one. Volume 111 of the series was the best-selling volume overall, boosted by excitement for the Elbaph Arc storyline. Jujutsu Kaisen came in second, after holding the top spot last year.
One Piece’s Elbaph Arc Didn’t Disappoint Fans After The Long Wait

For over twenty years, fans have eagerly awaited the Elbaf Arc, ever since the characters Dorry and Brogy appeared in the Little Garden Arc. Elbaf, a legendary island inhabited by Giants, is cut off from the rest of the world and holds clues to the past. It also has a connection to Shanks, who is a frequent visitor. The Giants are known as the strongest race, making them a target for the World Government, who want to control their power. This arc started with chapter 1126, released in September 2024, immediately following Luffy’s crew’s escape from Egghead Island.
The Straw Hat Pirates reconnect with the Giants, then continue battling on Egghead Island before heading towards it. The story hints that the island of Elbaph is connected to the legendary Sun God Nika and could reveal more about this powerful figure. This new arc also introduces several new characters who will either help or hinder Luffy’s quest to reach the final island. Currently, there are 113 volumes of the manga available, with the most recent three volumes continuing the current storyline.
The anime is almost finished with the Egghead Incident Arc and will pause for three months starting in January 2026. When it returns in April 2026, it will begin the Elbaph Arc. Instead of releasing episodes every week, Toei Animation will release 26 episodes each year. This change is intended to improve the animation quality and create a better work environment for the animators as the story approaches its conclusion.
