DC Studios is celebrating the holidays with a special short featuring Superman and his dog, Krypto. Fans recently saw Superman and Krypto in theaters with the release of James Gunn’s new Superman movie. This 2025 film kicks off a fresh direction for DC stories in cinemas, and is the first movie in Gunn’s new DC Universe.
Following the success of the Superman animated series, the dynamic duo is back with a new set of shorts on the DC YouTube channel. These funny, non-traditional adventures, called Krypto Saves the Day!, show Krypto getting into mischief while Superman isn’t looking.
Despite expectations that the Krypto Saves the Day! series was finished for the year, DC Studios released one final short film featuring Krypto and Superman. Titled Package Pandemonium, the surprise release appeared on the official DC YouTube channel and tells a festive holiday story starring the Super-Dog.

DC fans are in for a treat this holiday season with a new five-minute short! It features Krypto causing some playful trouble with mistletoe while chasing a mailman who appears to be delivering a meaty package all over Metropolis.

While chasing a mail carrier, Krypto accidentally wrecks Christmas for many people in the City of Tomorrow. He destroys an ice rink, knocks over the Christmas tree, extinguishes the Menorah, and ruins a festive photo opportunity. Realizing how much damage he’s caused, Krypto understands he made a mistake.

He sets out to fix everything, relying on his special abilities to refreeze the ice rink, lift the fallen tree, relight the Menorah, and put the giant ornaments back in place.

Having successfully helped save the holidays, Krypto went home and discovered the package he’d been eagerly waiting for was actually a gift from Superman. The short story ends with Krypto finally enjoying his steak and preparing a celebratory meal.

When Will Krypto Return to the DCU?
Krypto the Superdog has quickly become a standout character from James Gunn’s new Superman movie. Never before seen in a live-action film, he instantly charmed audiences.
The fun continues with the Krypto Saves the Day! animated shorts. While these stories aren’t considered official parts of the main storyline, they offer fans more of Krypto’s charming personality before his next major appearance in the DC Universe.
Many viewers recall the ending of the movie Superman revealing a surprise: Krypto wasn’t actually Superman’s dog. Instead, David Corenswet’s Superman was pet-sitting the dog for his cousin, Kara, who is also known as Supergirl.
James Gunn hinted that Krypto the Superdog will be featured in the upcoming Supergirl movie, and that he’ll have a significant role. Given that the film is inspired by the comic book Woman of Tomorrow, Krypto is expected to be a crucial companion to Kara as she travels through space.
Following this, viewers will probably see the character appear in James Gunn’s upcoming Man of Tomorrow project, as well as any future Krypto Saves the Day! animated shorts the DC Studios team creates.
