6 Star Trek Actors Who Openly Want To Return for the Legacy Spinoff

Terry Matalas, the creator of Star Trek: Picard, first proposed Star Trek: Legacy while Picard was finishing up in 2023. This new show would be a continuation of the story, and would probably include some of the same cast members.

Though writer Ronald D. Matalas completed a 30-page script for a potential Legacy series, Paramount+ currently has no plans to move forward with the project as of November 2025. Actor Todd Stashwick has expressed interest in reprising his role, and several other Star Trek cast members have also mentioned the possibility in the past.

6) Jeri Ryan

Jeri Ryan, known for her role as Captain Seven, has frequently talked about potentially appearing in a show called Star Trek: Legacy. According to TrekMovie, she was offered a different Star Trek spin-off series after Picard concluded, but she declined because it wasn’t the project fans were hoping for.

So, I was reading about why Ryan turned down a new series, and apparently, a big reason was because she really wants to do Legacy. She mentioned it a couple of times at this fan event. She also said she’s not completely ruling out returning as Seven someday – she kept saying ‘never say never’ – but Legacy is definitely what she’s focused on right now. It’s cool to see what actors are passionate about, you know?

5) Michelle Hurd

In January 2024, while celebrating the 25th anniversary of Law & Order: SVU (where she guest-starred in season one), Michelle Hurd mentioned she’d be thrilled to return as Raffi. She expressed hope that this would happen in the Legacy series, according to TrekMovie.

Hurd also stressed that the future of the series depended on fan demand. She believes that if fans clearly express their interest, the show will be made – and she’s eager to be a part of it.

4) Ed Speelers

Ed Speelers, who played Jack Crusher in season three of Picard, is eager to return for the new series Star Trek: Legacy. He told Collider earlier this year that he’s optimistic the spinoff will happen and is excited about the possibility.

Similar to his colleague, Hurd, actor Jonathan Speelers believes a Star Trek: Legacy series could happen if fans show Paramount enough support. Unfortunately, nearly a year after he expressed this hope, the project remains unconfirmed, though Speelers is still eager to be involved if it moves forward.

3) Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut

After Picard concluded in 2023, Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut expressed her desire to reprise her role as Sidney La Forge (according to SciFi Vision). She stated she would make a return to the Star Trek universe a priority if the series Star Trek: Legacy was approved.

As of November 2025, actress Samantha Chestnut has a continuing role on the TV show Chicago Med playing medical resident Naomi Howard. This makes it uncertain whether she’d be available to join the potential new series Legacy if it’s approved soon. However, she’s expressed enthusiasm for meeting fans at conventions and connecting with those who enjoyed her work on Picard, so it’s difficult to say what she might do.

2) Mica and Levar Burton

LeVar Burton’s daughter is eager to return to her role on Picard. During season 3 of the show, she and her father talked to Whoopi Goldberg (as reported by Collider) about potentially reprising her part as Alandra, and she was very enthusiastic about it.

Burton was particularly enthusiastic about the dynamic between Alandra and Sidney, noting that no other Star Trek series had ever focused on siblings working together aboard a starship. He also mentioned, in the same interview, that the show had already laid the groundwork for a potential continuation.

1) Todd Stashwick

Jonathan Frakes (Stashwick) has repeatedly said he’d like to come back for Star Trek: Legacy. Just last August, he told TrekMovie he’s eager to reprise his role as Shaw, even suggesting the character could be brought back from the dead to satisfy fans and allow him to be part of the new show.

I recently heard from Jonathan Stashwick that if fans really want to see him in the new Star Trek: Legacy series, they should send him a letter – actual mail, not email! He’s currently working with Terry Matalas on Vision Quest, which sounds great, but you can tell he’s really excited about the possibility of joining the Legacy cast down the line. He definitely seems eager to be a part of it if the opportunity arises.

Okay, so everyone’s buzzing about the potential Star Trek: Legacy series, and I’m dying to know – if this show actually gets made, which character from the Star Trek universe are you most excited to see return? Seriously, let me know in the comments – I’m heading over to the ComicBook Forum to join the discussion, and you should too!
