Reece Merrick, that old salt of the crypto seas, has been waving a white flag of surrender to the RLUSD tidal wave. “The demand,” he grumbled, “has grown like a stubborn weed in a drought.” Seems folks ain’t just trading crypto now-they’re using it to pay rent, buy groceries, and maybe even tip waiters. Go figure.
Stablecoin’s March to Glory (or Hubris?)
RLUSD, that digital dollar clone, is strutting its stuff like it owns the blockchain. Merrick claims it’s not just for crypto bros anymore-it’s for “actual payments.” Translation: People are finally ditching their paper money like it’s last year’s fashion.
In 2025, Merrick’s Twitter rant went viral faster than a meme coin rug pull. “Stablecoins started as a backdoor to crypto,” he wrote, “but now they’re the main event.” He cited numbers that make your head spin: $0.5 trillion in 2020, $27.6 trillion in 2024. If you blinked, you’d miss a zero. 😂
Stablecoins were born as a simple on-ramp to buy crypto.
Fast forward to 2025 → whilst a large portion is still used for this purpose, stablecoins are also being used for actual payments and we’re seeing this huge demand at @Ripple
Look at the growth over the last five years…

Merrick added that 2025 might hit $46 trillion in transfers-more than Visa and Mastercard combined. “It’s like the internet got a second heartbeat,” he said. Or maybe just a caffeine overdose. 🚀
He praised B2B settlements and merchants hopping on the stablecoin bandwagon. “They’re building a new payment layer,” he declared, “while the old guard naps.” At 150% annual growth, traditional banks might as well start selling crypto brochures from their ATMs.
Regulation? Oh, Just a Pinprick 🤷♂️
RLUSD’s $1 billion on Ethereum is just a pebble in the ocean of its ambitions. The XRP Ledger’s DeFi ecosystem is “spotlighting” it like a kid with a flashlight in the dark. And let’s not forget the GENIUS Act-because nothing says “trust us” like a law named after a Greek tragedy.
Merrick’s tea leaves predict a tokenized future. “Regulation and transparency are the new best friends,” he said. Or maybe just the new best lies. Either way, RLUSD’s on exchanges like confetti at a crypto party. 🎉
