The future of the DC Universe looks promising under James Gunn’s leadership. He’s wisely building the franchise piece by piece, starting with the world of Superman and his iconic supporting characters. Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, and Perry White are almost as well-known as Superman himself, and this is thanks to previous efforts, including their appearances in Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe, which still feels current after launching in 2013.
Despite the fact that Warner Bros. Discovery seems to have abandoned the DC Extended Universe, a dedicated group of fans continues to campaign for its revival online. Zack Snyder acknowledges and appreciates their support, regularly sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of his DC work. Recently, he posted a photo of Ben Affleck as the Knightmare Batman, which quickly went viral. His newest post isn’t a dramatic image, but it does offer a look at what truly made his vision for the franchise special.
This photo, as the caption says, was taken by Clark Kent during a private moment with Lois Lane. Longtime fans might recognize it from Justice League – it appeared in a frame by Lois’ bed, representing what she feared she’d lost before Superman came back at the movie’s end. But now, seeing the complete photo offers a new understanding of Zack Snyder’s vision for Superman and his purpose.
Zack Snyder’s Superman Is Just Trying to Find His Place in the World

A common criticism of Zack Snyder’s Superman is that he doesn’t act like a traditional hero. He tends to react to problems after they’ve escalated, instead of preventing them. However, this is intentional. The DC Extended Universe portrays a world skeptical of Superman, openly questioning his need and purpose. Consequently, he distances himself from public opinion and concentrates on the one person he trusts: Lois Lane.
The connection between Lois and Clark Kent is central to the entire story. Even Batman recognizes that Lois can reach him better than anyone – even Wonder Woman – as seen when he’s resurrected in Justice League. Once Clark lets Lois understand the danger, he’s motivated to rescue his friends and defeat Steppenwolf. Lois willingly accepts the responsibility of supporting him, because she has unwavering faith in Clark, and that’s why she cherishes their photo, even when things are at their worst.
