As a huge kaiju enthusiast, I’m absolutely thrilled today! We’ve been waiting for a worthy successor to [original series name], and it’s finally been announced! It feels like a dream come true.
Toho, the Japanese entertainment company behind Godzilla, has announced a new animated series featuring the iconic monster. The series will center around a boy who gains Godzilla’s powers. It’s being created in a similar style to the popular Crunchyroll series Kaiju No. 8, with a focus on the character inheriting monster abilities. Toho Animation is partnering with Studio Orange, known for its work on the Netflix series, to produce this latest installment in the Godzilla franchise.
New Godzilla Anime Series Announced as the Perfect Replacement for Kaiju No. 8 Fans
New concept art for the upcoming Godzilla anime reveals a young boy who looks part-human, part-Godzilla, getting ready to unleash the monster’s iconic atomic breath. The animation studio behind the project, Studio Orange, is known for its visually striking CG animation in series like Trigun Stampede, Beastars, and Land of the Lustrous.
According to Keiji Ota, a top executive at Toho, the Godzilla franchise has always reflected the times over its 70+ year history. The latest installment, which features a boy gaining Godzilla’s powers, is a new direction for the series. Toho hopes this will allow them to explore both the anxieties and optimism of the modern world with greater nuance, and represents a new approach to storytelling for their animation division.
Kiyotaka Waki, a producer at Studio Orange, discussed their exciting new partnership with the Godzilla franchise. He explained that after working on Godzilla S.P Singular Point, they’ve developed valuable skills and creative approaches, which they plan to fully utilize in this upcoming Godzilla project. Waki also expressed his enthusiasm for working with Igloo Studio, praising their award-winning history and broad experience in animation.
Bangkok-based animation studio Igloo Studio is helping to create the new Godzilla anime. Nat Yoswatananont, the studio’s founder and CEO, expressed his excitement about working with Toho, the company behind Godzilla. He said it’s a privilege to work on such an iconic franchise and that he hopes the new anime will reflect the feelings and experiences of people around the world.
The recent announcement about a new Godzilla series comes at a good time, as the popular Shonen Jump manga Kaiju No. 8 just finished its second season on Crunchyroll. Even more significantly, the manga itself concluded on July 18, 2025, with the release of its 129th chapter. While the anime hasn’t reached these final events yet, the manga’s ending creates a sense of urgency for the entire franchise.
The new Godzilla anime looks like a great follow-up for fans of Kaiju No. 8, borrowing some of what made that series so popular. Interestingly, Kaiju No. 8‘s author, Naoya Matsumoto, has said he was inspired by Godzilla. Plus, Hideaki Anno – the director of Shin Godzilla and other Shin films – was involved in the Kaiju No. 8 anime through his company, Khara, where he designed the monsters.
You can watch Kaiju No. 8 on Crunchyroll and Godzilla Singular Point on Netflix.
