Quentin Tarantino has always said he wouldn’t make another Kill Bill movie, but he’s now considering making a prequel. This comes as fans are getting more Kill Bill content, including the release of a lost chapter and limited theatrical screenings of a restored version called The Whole Bloody Affair.
The complete version of Kill Bill, titled The Whole Bloody Affair, combines both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 into one uncut film. It also includes the animated short The Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge. If you’re only interested in the animated story of Yuki Yubari seeking revenge on the Bride, and don’t want to watch the nearly 4-and-a-half-hour The Whole Bloody Affair, the short film is also available on Fortnite.
During a showing of “Yuki’s Revenge” at his Vista Theater in Los Angeles, Quentin Tarantino revisited his plans for a prequel focusing on the backstory of Bill. He confirmed he still intends to create the film, which would detail the story of the three people who trained Bill to become a deadly assassin. Tarantino jokingly added that he’s not sure if he’ll live to see the project completed. You can find his full comments below.
I’m busy with other projects at the moment, but while working on the film, I came up with a whole backstory for the character Bill. I was just exhausted after making the movie, though. I really like the idea of exploring Bill’s origins – a story about how he became who he is, and the three mentors who shaped him: Esteban Vihaio, Pai Mei, and Hattori Hanzō. Whether I’ll have the time to actually make that story remains to be seen.
Quentin Tarantino recently discussed another film he once planned but never made. He revealed it would be a prequel story focusing on Vincent Vega (played by John Travolta in Pulp Fiction) and Vic Vega (played by Michael Madsen in Reservoir Dogs), and he shared this information while answering a question about his potential future work with animation and motion capture at a screening of “Yuki’s Revenge”.
I was hoping to find a balance between realistic storytelling and the fantastical elements of Japanese anime. I wanted something that wasn’t limited by what’s physically possible, like a live-action version of a movie like the Vega Brothers.
Quentin Tarantino isn’t focusing on potential prequel films at the moment, but he’s still interested in telling those stories, especially after enjoying his work on the animated short “Yuki’s Revenge.” This comes at a time when his next project is unclear, as he recently cancelled his plans for The Movie Critic, which he had intended to be his last film.
I’m so intrigued by his new movie – it sounds like something completely fresh and unlike anything he’s tackled before! But what really excites me is how he’s using animation. It’s not just a one-off; he’s hinting at exploring the backstories of characters like Bill and the Vega Brothers, maybe even giving them their own movies or a whole series! It feels like a huge expansion of the world he’s already created, and I can’t wait to see where it goes.
Since David Carradine, who originally played Bill, passed away in 2009, a prequel to Kill Bill would require a new actor to voice the character. Quentin Tarantino already voiced Bill in a scene called “Yuki’s Revenge” and could reprise the role, or a different actor could be cast. Similarly, Michael Madsen, known for his role in Reservoir Dogs and as Budd in Kill Bill: Vol. 2, passed away in 2025. Therefore, a prequel focusing on the Vega Brothers would need a new actor to provide his voice.
