‘Zootopia 2’ Beats ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Record and ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’

Though it’s not always in the spotlight, the new Zootopia movie is a massive success. It’s already become one of the highest-grossing films in China, earning $100 million on its opening day – surpassing the previous record of $79 million held by another major blockbuster and marking the first time a Hollywood film has reached that milestone in a single day in the country. This proves a franchise doesn’t need constant hype or nostalgia to be incredibly popular.

Just a few days after its release over Thanksgiving weekend, Zootopia 2 quickly became a major hit, surpassing most other films released this year and entering the Top 10 highest-grossing movies. If it continues to perform well and earns more than $521 million – the total of The Fantastic Four: First Steps – it will move into the Top 10. Experts predict Zootopia 2 will continue to climb the charts in the coming weeks and is likely to become the highest-grossing Hollywood movie of the year, exceeding Lilo & Stitch‘s $1.04 billion.

Disney still has one more big film coming this year: Avatar: Fire and Ash in December. Like the previous Avatar movies, it’s expected to be a huge hit. Although early predictions suggest it might open with slightly lower numbers than the last film, it’s likely to perform similarly to Zootopia 2 and could even become the highest-grossing movie of the year.

‘Zootopia 2’ Is Already One of the Highest Grossing Movies of the Year

The new animated film, Zootopia 2, had a huge opening weekend, earning $556 million globally, including an impressive $270 million in China. This strong debut has already surpassed the total earnings of all Marvel Studios movies released this year, causing The Fantastic Four: First Steps to fall out of the top ten highest-grossing films.

Given the incredible success of the movie, Disney will likely prioritize making Zootopia 3. This also reinforces their strategy of investing in established franchises and sequels, as we’re already seeing with Toy Story 5 coming out next year, followed by Frozen 3, Coco 2, and other planned sequels.
