Sam Haft, the composer for Hazbin Hotel, has hinted at some exciting developments for popular character pairings in season 3, and how these relationships will influence the new music. Season 2 of Hazbin Hotel included memorable songs performed as solos or duets, notably featuring Vox with two solo tracks, and a unique duet between Sir Pentious and Sera called “Live to Live.”
Composer Parry Gripp (known as Haft) told ScreenRant that while season 2 of Hazbin Hotel featured a lot of songs sung by villains, the music in season 3 will be different. He also hinted that some of the duets and musical pairings planned for the new season will be a big hit with fans when they’re revealed. Here’s what Haft had to say:
ScreenRant: What are you most excited for fans to see in season 3?
Looking back at season 2, we jokingly called it ‘Oops, all villain songs!’ because it featured so many songs from the villains’ perspectives. Season 3 has a completely different feel, and while we finished it some time ago, I can’t reveal any details just yet.
Everything’s written, though, and at the moment, we’re wrapping up writing for season 4.
Okay, so maybe this is getting into spoiler territory, but honestly, I’m really curious about the music Lilith will be associated with. I’m dying to know what kind of sound they’re going for with her themes – any hints you can drop?
I’m really looking forward to seeing how the audience reacts! When we start working on music for a new season – and this is definitely true for seasons 3 and 4 – we always ask ourselves what sounds fresh. We think about which artists we haven’t featured yet, or haven’t showcased in a particular way, and even which singers we haven’t heard on the show at all. That’s something we consciously focus on.
I’ve noticed a lot of online discussion about specific songs, character pairings, and solo performances that people are hoping to see. Without revealing any details, I think fans will be really pleased with what season 3 delivers.
Season 3 is a really captivating part of the show. Viv has said it’s currently her favorite, and I can see why. It feels like a complete story within itself – it has a clear beginning, middle, and end, even though it’s part of a larger plot. I’m really excited for it to start, especially since the finale of Season 2 just came out!
The second season of Hazbin Hotel concluded by clearly outlining the plot for season three. Charlie teamed up with everyone in Hell to dismantle Vox’s weapon, and simultaneously collaborated with Sera to demonstrate Pentious’s change of heart. With the hotel gradually gaining success, Charlie finally receives a long-awaited call from her mother, Lilith.
Vivienne Medrano (Haft) has hinted that season 3 of Hazbin Hotel will focus on a specific storyline, primarily revolving around the Morningstar family and the consequences of Alastor breaking his agreements. Lilith will play a major role, suggesting she’ll have musical numbers, and other characters like Charlie and Lucifer will likely be involved as well.
Regarding future duet pairings, Haft assured fans that they’ll be pleased with what’s coming. Potential combinations include Lucifer with any of the angels – Lute, Sera, or Abel – who haven’t shared a song yet. Another highly anticipated pairing is Alastor and Charlie, as they play significant roles in each other’s storylines but haven’t sung together so far.
With Lilith’s appearance, we’re expecting more collaborations between characters from Heaven and Hell. However, because most of the Hazbin Hotel characters are stuck in their own worlds, it’s hard to say how many songs will actually feature angels and demons together. Still, there’s potential for a lot of unique and interesting performances.
Vivienne Medrano (Haft) has shared clues about potential couples in Hazbin Hotel season 3, suggesting we’ll soon hear some long-awaited songs. While there are many character pairings the show hasn’t explored yet, the composer has indicated that several highly requested ones will appear in the upcoming episodes.
