Peacock is quickly becoming a top choice for fans of science fiction. The streaming service, from NBCUniversal, offers a wide variety of sci-fi shows and movies, including popular series like Continuum and the entire Jurassic Park franchise, with the latest installment, Jurassic World Rebirth, coming in 2025. And this December, Peacock is adding another classic sci-fi sequel to its already impressive collection.
The thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane, directed by Dan Trachtenberg, is a follow-up to the 2008 film Cloverfield. It began streaming on Peacock on December 1st and was produced by J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber. The movie stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Michelle, a woman who finds herself in an underground bunker with two men after a car accident. The bunker’s owner, Howard, played by John Goodman, insists the outside world is uninhabitable due to a chemical attack, and their survival depends on staying put. John Gallagher Jr. also stars in the film.
Why You Should Watch 10 Cloverfield Lane
As a huge movie fan, I really appreciate how 10 Cloverfield Lane took the basic idea of Cloverfield – everyday people caught up in some massive, scary event – and completely flipped the script. Instead of a shaky-cam monster movie, it became this incredibly tense, character-focused thriller, and honestly, it worked brilliantly. Where the first film was all about big explosions and widespread chaos, this one locks you into a small space and builds dread through atmosphere. Even something as simple as a dinner conversation feels terrifying! It’s a masterclass in suspense, constantly keeping you on edge and questioning everything – is Howard actually trying to protect her, or is he holding her captive? It really grabs you from the beginning and doesn’t let go until the final moments.
I absolutely love 10 Cloverfield Lane. What’s so great about it is that you don’t even need to have seen the first Cloverfield to get completely drawn into its gripping, suspenseful story. The way they marketed it was brilliant too – they built up so much excitement while keeping almost everything a secret! Critics clearly agree it’s fantastic – it has a 91% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is actually higher than the original Cloverfield. And audiences loved it even more! Even now, years after it came out, I still think it’s a sci-fi gem, and I happily rewatch it whenever I get the chance.
