The latest installment in the popular horror series, Resident Evil Requiem, is almost here, and it’s aiming to push the franchise in exciting new directions. Early gameplay reveals show it delivers the classic Resident Evil horror fans expect, while also telling a unique story through the character of Grace Ashcroft. It looks set to be one of the biggest game releases of 2026.
Everyone’s been wondering if they’ll bring back characters from older games in the new one, and I’m right there with them! Leon hasn’t been showing up much in the trailers and stuff, which is weird, but a bunch of us have been digging around and we think we’ve found some clues that he might still show up. It’s exciting!
Now that the developers have confirmed characters from previous games will be playable in Requiem, and despite their attempt to manage expectations, fans are excited about what’s coming. We think this could be a fantastic installment for Leon, and it sounds like he might have a new role connected to the series’ latest main character.
Setting the Scene
Okay, so I’m picking up the story with Grace, who’s an FBI analyst. She’s now trying to figure out what happened to her mom, Alyssa, who went missing years ago at the Wrenwood Hotel. It’s kinda crazy because this was back when Leon was the main guy, you know? Apparently, both Alyssa and Leon were digging into the shady stuff the Umbrella Corporation was up to, so there’s a chance they might have crossed paths while investigating. It’s a small world, even in a zombie apocalypse!
Since Grace’s story is set eight years after previous events, and Leon has spent years working for STRATCOM and experiencing everything the series has to offer, he might have learned about Grace returning to Wrenwood and become interested in finding out what happened to Alyssa.
We’re confident Leon will be involved in Requiem. His understanding of Raccoon City – both how it was and how it is now – makes him a great link between the past and present, and he can guide Grace, our new protagonist. She’ll definitely need his help when the story begins, making him a key character if he joins her.

Grace is inexperienced and lacks self-assurance, meaning she needs guidance to succeed. Leon, a highly skilled former police officer who may even have known Grace’s mother, is the perfect person to provide it. While Grace has received some combat training as an FBI agent, Leon is a much more seasoned and formidable fighter. He’s ideally suited to train her in the field, and that’s not the only reason we suspect he’ll be involved in Requiem.
A Strong, Reassuring Presence
Leon has the potential to be a valuable connection to the past, helping to fill in the gaps from the eight years since Alyssa vanished and offering Grace new clues. However, his importance goes beyond just providing information.
The game will follow Grace’s journey as she transforms from a shy investigator determined to uncover the truth about her mother’s disappearance. Early in the game, Leon could help guide players as Grace learns the ropes, using his skills in investigation and combat as a tutorial character to show her – and the player – how to handle the challenges of the case.
The game’s story trailer suggests he once helped Ayssa, providing her with information and guidance about Umbrella in exchange for her insights. The story could build on this past connection, showing how their earlier working relationship helps Grace investigate things now and also develops Ayssa’s character for players to learn more about.

You may have noticed Alyssa appearing frequently – and you’re right to pick up on that! If you’ve been following along, you might recall our idea that she’s the enemy who stalks the main character, Grace, at the beginning of the game Requiem.
Leon seems like a sensible and helpful person, and could potentially teach Grace the self-defense skills she’ll need to stay safe from her stalker – no matter who they are. We’ve touched on why he’s been unavailable, explaining that the story’s direction shifted unexpectedly, and wasn’t something he chose.
Playing as Leon has really upped my combat skills, and I’ve learned a ton about BOWs – basically, all the different monsters and how to take them down. Honestly, it’s a perfect setup for the story, and the devs have to be planning something big with all this. I even get the feeling they’re pretending not to reveal much just to keep the hype going for Requiem until it finally drops. It’s a smart move, really.
The Perfect Stage For A Comeback
Let’s look at what we’ve seen of Requiem so far to support this idea. The initial trailer, released in June, clearly showed the ruined Raccoon City Police Department building. However, the game will probably focus heavily on the Wrenwood Hotel, and potentially other locations, as Grace’s investigation unfolds.

If Racoon City is mentioned, it’s likely a playful nod to Leon and the beginning of his story. The mysterious phone call Alyssa receives in the flashback probably involves Leon or someone working with him, warning her that she’s been discovered and needs to get away – which explains what happens next. Also, the gun Alyssa pulls out of her bag looks a lot like the pistols Leon has used in previous games.
That information is a bit outdated now, but it’s helpful to remember as we learn the game will include characters from older titles. This got us wondering: could we see more returning faces than just Leon?
Leon and Chris have crossed paths before, and Leon is already familiar with Claire and Jill Valentine. Ada Wong is another key figure to keep in mind. Each of these characters is a legend in the Resident Evil universe, having starred in their own games and possessing complex histories that could drive the story of Requiem if the writers choose to explore them.
It’s possible Leon was looking into Alyssa’s disappearance and something went wrong. If that’s true, Grace might need to take charge and become the hero, stepping up to make a difference if Leon is unable to continue.
A Fan Favorite
Many fans, like us, are eager to see Leon return for another Resident Evil game. With Requiem already generating a lot of excitement and wishlists on Steam, it seems like a great opportunity to bring Leon S. Kennedy back into the series.
These new adventures are a great way to show us a more experienced and thoughtful version of the character. He can bring weight and deep understanding of the story’s history, plus a fresh viewpoint shaped by his background in law enforcement and training to fight against the Umbrella Corporation.
Whether his appearance in Requiem turns out to be a clever fake-out or an obvious reveal, he’d fit well into the game’s story. Plus, making him a playable character would be a fantastic nod to the early, popular games in the series.
Over the next few months, we’ll find out if our idea about a key character from Resident Evil is correct. We’re staying optimistic and eagerly awaiting news about whether this character will continue their story in what looks like a promising new direction for the series.
