Netflix has already revealed some details about the final episodes of Stranger Things Season 5. The show, which has been careful to keep plot points secret for years, included clues in its promotional materials that weren’t fully explained in the first part of the final season.
The beginning of Stranger Things Season 5 introduced big changes to Hawkins, Indiana. The military has taken over the town and is now operating in the Upside Down. Meanwhile, the group is trying to find out where Vecna is, believing they defeated him last season, but they soon discover he’s been planning something even worse – a dangerous plot involving the town’s children.
The first part of Stranger Things Season 5 ends with a shocking discovery about Will and Vecna, and Netflix has offered a few clues about what fans can expect when the show continues.
Stranger Things 5 Spoilers Revealed By Netflix
Barb is Back

Everyone loved Shannon Purser’s character, Barb, on Stranger Things, and viewers were devastated when she became one of the first victims in Season 1. As Nancy’s supportive and sensible best friend, Barb didn’t deserve what happened to her, and fans have been hoping for some kind of resolution ever since.
Although Barb won’t return in a traditional sense for Stranger Things Season 5, the Duffer Brothers have said her body will likely appear as part of Vecna’s network of victims. This hints at a potentially significant connection between all of those affected by Vecna, which may be explored further in the final season.
Musical Moments

Music has always been a standout part of Stranger Things, with both its original electronic score and popular song choices like Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ and Eddie’s Metallica cover in Season 4. Season 5 is already featuring some excellent music moments, and the creators, the Duffer Brothers, hint that even more memorable music is coming before the series concludes.
Matt Duffer recently told Deadline that the second volume of the current season will feature some exciting and unique musical scenes, and hinted that even bigger musical moments are planned for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things.
Time Unraveling

Many fans believe time travel will be a key part of the final season of Stranger Things. The official description for Season 5 suggests this, using the phrase “time itself unraveling” to hint at what’s to come.
In the upcoming fifth season of Stranger Things, the show has hinted at time travel through Max, who is trapped in Vecna’s mental world and has glimpsed his past. However, the full role time will play in the final season is still a mystery.
Vecna’s History

The Duffer brothers have hinted that Season 5, Volume 2 will delve deeper into Max and Vecna’s shared history. In an interview with Variety, they compared Vecna’s backstory to the storyline involving Hopper in Season 4 – a separate, focused plot that kept him apart from the main group.
Season 5 will focus on Max and Holly as they navigate a new storyline connected to Russia. They’ve been separated from the rest of the group within Vecna’s mental world, and we’ll see much more of this space in the second volume. The creators, the Duffer brothers, have confirmed that Volume 2 will reveal more of Vecna’s past, and that these flashbacks will connect seamlessly with the other events of the season.
Stranger Things: The First Shadow Connections

Before the final season of Stranger Things comes out, a prequel play called Stranger Things: The First Shadow debuted. It explores the backstory of Henry Creel – before he became Vecna – showing how he developed his abilities and his connections to familiar characters, all set in the 1950s.
Elements of the Stranger Things stage play found their way into the first part of season 5, specifically in scenes where Max remembers Henry’s experiences at school and discovers the cave. However, that wasn’t the only connection. According to Matt Duffer, there will be even more ties to the play, especially in the season’s final episode.
When Kate Trefry and I were developing the stage play, we already had Henry’s history established. The challenge was figuring out how much of it to include in the play itself. The director, Stephen Daldry, and producer, Sonia Friedman, wanted to reveal more of Henry’s backstory upfront, but we felt it was better to save some details for the show. You’ll notice, particularly in the final episode, that the play and the series storylines connect more closely.
The Secret of the Mind Flayer

As a huge fan of Stranger Things, I’ve always been fascinated by the Mind Flayer – that creepy, shadowy monster connected to the Upside Down. It’s been a part of the show since the very first season! Season 4 finally gave us some answers, revealing that Henry, after getting sent to the Upside Down, somehow connected with the Mind Flayer and became Vecna. It all makes so much more sense now!
The relationship between Vecna and the Mind Flayer remains a key mystery in the show’s fifth season. However, the Duffer Brothers have confirmed that this question will be answered in the final episode, so fans will have to wait until New Year’s Eve to learn the truth.
