Marvel Is Giving Captain America the Epic Showdown the MCU Botched

Chris Evans’ time playing Captain America ended with Avengers: Endgame, and now Anthony Mackie has taken over the role. While Mackie debuts as Captain America in the movie Captain America: Brave New World, a different powerful villain was originally planned for a story that will now never happen within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The new movie officially brings Red Hulk into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, leading to a fight with Captain America. Sam Wilson (the current Captain America) proves to be a match for Red Hulk, though many fans would rather see the original Captain America, Steve Rogers, battle Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. While a fight between Rogers and Ross probably won’t happen in a movie, it will occur in the Marvel comics.

In February 2026, Marvel will release Captain America #7, written by Chip Zdarsky with art by Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar. This issue picks up after the events of One World Under Doom and features a dramatic showdown on the cover – illustrated by Valerio Schiti – between Captain America and Red Hulk from the Brave New World storyline.

Captain America And Red Hulk Are At Odds Over The Fate Of Latveria Following Doctor Doom’s Death

Captain America #7 By Chip Zdarsky, Delio Diaz, and Frank Alpizar; On Sale February 2026 From Marvel Comics

The Marvel storyline One World Under Doom ends with Doctor Doom making the ultimate sacrifice to save his goddaughter, Valeria Richards. This creates instability in Latveria, and Captain America is tasked with maintaining order. However, Red Hulk, who was once a prisoner of Doom for past war crimes, has his own plans that clash with Captain America’s.

The latest issue of Captain America, #7, hints at a major Marvel event planned for 2026 called Armageddon, written by the current Captain America writer, Chip Zdarsky. Marvel has announced the return of S.H.I.E.L.D., with Nick Fury Jr. investigating growing political problems in Latveria.

Below is the solicitation for Captain America #7:

A CAPTAIN’S CRUSADE!

Driven by a fear that another Doctor Doom will emerge from the ruins of Latveria, Red Hulk takes extreme measures. Meanwhile, Captain America learns that some people within the devastated country believe they can build a better future. But can Captain America help them achieve their dream, or are the obstacles too great?

MCU Fans Missed Out On Steve Rogers’ Captain America Vs. Red Hulk

Fans Had To Settle For Sam Wilson Instead

Captain America: Brave New World isn’t resonating with audiences, continuing a recent pattern of weaker releases for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many viewers find the story disappointing and the plot confusing. Despite these issues, the fight scene between Red Hulk and Captain America is a standout moment, even though Sam Wilson’s Captain America doesn’t have the same super-soldier abilities as Steve Rogers.

Imagine how amazing a fight between Red Hulk and Captain America would be! While Marvel Cinematic Universe fans didn’t get to see Captain America face off against Bruce Banner’s Hulk, we did see Hulk battle Thor and Iron Man. Luckily, the comics delivered on that Red Hulk vs. Captain America matchup!

Captain America #7 goes on sale in February 2026 from Marvel Comics.
