Dave Coulier Shares New Cancer Diagnosis After Beating Lymphoma

Dave Coulier is embarking on another health battle.

Just months after recovering from Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, the actor best known for Full House revealed he received a new cancer diagnosis in October: oropharyngeal tongue cancer caused by HPV.

It was a real shock,” Dave told Today on December 2nd. “Going through chemotherapy and finally feeling like the cancer was gone was such a relief, only to then learn you have a different type of cancer is incredibly difficult.”

The 66-year-old, who has been married to Melissa Bring since 2014, said it’s been a very difficult year. He explained that his most recent diagnosis was discovered unexpectedly during a routine follow-up scan.

A couple of months ago, Dave—father to 35-year-old Luc with his ex-partner, Jayne Modean—had a PET scan that showed something unusual. He explained that the doctor couldn’t identify it, but it appeared at the base of his tongue.

Dave received a cancer diagnosis after several biopsies revealed a growth on his tongue. Thankfully, doctors confirmed it was a new and separate cancer, not connected to the non-Hodgkin lymphoma he’d previously been treated for. He later remembered being shocked, exclaiming, “Are you kidding me?”

Doctors explained to the star of The Real Ghostbusters that the condition might have been caused by an HPV infection contracted up to 30 years in the past.

Dave shared that many people have the HPV virus, but in his case, it developed into cancer. Fortunately, they caught it early, and he says it’s highly treatable with a 90% chance of full recovery.

I just spoke with Dave, and he shared some news about his health. Thankfully, the doctor is optimistic, but they’re going to begin radiation treatment right away to make sure everything stays on track. It’s good they’re being proactive!

Even though Dave has been dealing with some health issues, he wants everyone to know he’s doing alright.

He often jokes that he’s doing surprisingly well considering he has cancer. He explained that having cancer actually helped doctors find his second cancer, which sounds strange, but it’s true.
