Netflix has released a new season of a popular horror series, based on a successful book series. The streaming service is known for its horror content, offering shows like Supernatural, Teen Wolf, and original series such as The Fall of the House of Usher and Stranger Things. As part of its December releases, Netflix added the latest season of this hit drama, and fans have even more to look forward to.
All eight episodes of Season 2 of Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches became available on Netflix on December 2nd, less than a year after they first aired on AMC. This means you can now stream all current episodes of the series. Created by Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford, the show is part of Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe – the same world as Interview with the Vampire – and is based on her Lives of the Mayfair Witches novels. The series stars Alexandra Daddario as Rowan Fielding, a neurosurgeon who discovers she’s connected to a family of witches. Harry Hamlin, Tongayi Chirisa, and Jack Huston also feature in the cast. The release of Season 2 follows the announcement that Mayfair Witches will be back for a third season.
Mayfair Witches Season 2 Is an Improvement Over Season 1
The first season of Mayfair Witches got off to a rocky start. Released in 2023, it received unfavorable reviews and audience scores (47% on Rotten Tomatoes) and some felt it didn’t do justice to Anne Rice’s novels. While it still attracted a dedicated following, the initial season didn’t capture the unique, over-the-top Southern Gothic feel of the books. It also struggled with a slow, confusing plot and characters that failed to fully engage viewers.
I was so relieved when Season 2 finally arrived in 2025 – it was genuinely a fantastic show! Critics called it “hauntingly dark, sultry and sexy,” and they weren’t wrong. It really took what Season 1 started and fixed a lot of the earlier problems. This season went much darker, leaning into horror, and the story moved at a great pace. They added so much more depth to the world and threw in twists I didn’t see coming – I couldn’t stop watching! All those improvements really paid off; it earned a solid 71% from critics and a 60% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, which it deserved.
Will There Be an Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches Season 3?
Great news for fans! AMC has renewed Mayfair Witches for a third season, and the story will now move to Salem, Massachusetts. The new season promises to explore the history of witchcraft in more detail, introduce new families with magical connections, and delve into the famous (and often dark) history of Salem. James Frain, Eliza Scanlen, and Michiel Huisman are joining the cast, and according to Variety, filming is already underway in Vancouver. A release date hasn’t been announced yet.
