As a film and TV buff, I’ve definitely seen how huge Netflix has become. They’ve got a ton of great stuff, from their own original shows to all those classic series we love. And honestly, their Originals like My Life With The Walter Boys and Man on the Inside are seriously addictive! I know so many people – myself included – who just can’t help but binge a whole season the moment it drops, and then spend weeks dissecting every detail until the next one arrives.
It’s frustrating when new seasons of shows take a long time to appear, or even worse, when streaming services cancel a show people love. It’s especially disappointing – and often surprising – when popular shows don’t get renewed for another season.
5) Anne With An E

I have to admit, “Anne With an E” really stirred things up. While it was based on the beloved “Anne of Green Gables” books, the show wasn’t afraid to take risks, especially by tackling tough subjects like the injustices faced by Indigenous children and introducing a storyline about racism. Not everyone loved those changes, but the show built a seriously devoted fanbase, and honestly, they were heartbroken when it was cancelled after only three seasons. It was a show people really connected with, and it’s a shame we didn’t get to see where the story would go.
Despite being canceled in 2019, fans are still passionately hoping for a continuation of Anne with an E, and petitions for a new season are still circulating six years later. While reviving the show would be challenging now—the young cast has grown up and started new projects—the ongoing support clearly shows canceling it was a mistake.
4) The Society

It’s particularly disappointing that The Society was canceled because Netflix had already approved a second season. However, financial difficulties brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and related lockdowns ultimately made continuing the show impossible.
It’s not surprising that Netflix faced challenges with new safety rules and experienced financial losses during the pandemic, like many other entertainment companies. Still, it’s frustrating that they haven’t been able to find a way to bring the show back by 2025.
The idea of a town without adults was interesting, but The Society raised more questions than it answered – especially about what happened to all the adults. Unfortunately, the show ended with a major cliffhanger that will now never be explained.
3) The Waterfront

Given its similar storyline to Breaking Bad, The Waterfront seemed poised for success. The show followed a family that resorted to drugs and crime to save their struggling fishing business. That’s why its cancellation after just one season was so surprising, especially since it was consistently among the most-watched shows on Netflix.
Netflix explained its cancellation by pointing out that many viewers didn’t finish the first season, indicating initial interest but a lack of sustained engagement. Even with that data, it’s still surprising the show wasn’t renewed, as there seemed to be enough potential for a second season with some improvements.
2) I Am Not Okay With This

I was so bummed when I Am Not Okay With This got canceled. It was a really cool show – a bit quirky and definitely aimed at teens like me, with a cool, subtle queer vibe and superpowers! Everyone who worked on it at Netflix seemed to love it, but sadly, they decided it just wasn’t worth the money to continue for another season, which is a huge disappointment.
The worst part of the show being canceled is that it ended with a major cliffhanger, and Netflix didn’t even offer a quick fix – like a new ending – to give fans some resolution. The show’s title ended up being sadly accurate, because many viewers were understandably upset about a story that was left unfinished.
1) Everything Sucks!

Everything Sucks! was a funny and heartfelt comedy about growing up and discovering who you are, with a focus on LGBTQ+ characters. The show, which aired in 2018, offered a realistic – and often unglamorous – take on what it was like to be a teenager in the 1990s, following students involved in the school’s AV and drama clubs. It’s particularly remembered for a groundbreaking storyline where the principal’s daughter came out, and moments like that helped the show build a dedicated and enthusiastic following.
Netflix decided not to renew Everything Sucks! for a second season because viewership dropped off before the end of the first season. Despite fan disappointment, the streaming service didn’t change its mind. It’s particularly frustrating for viewers because the show ended on two unresolved cliffhangers: Kate and Emmaline shared a first kiss that McQuaid saw, and Leroy’s father unexpectedly appeared at his home.
