Digital Extremes has revealed a new trailer for Soulframe, their upcoming fantasy MMORPG, signaling a significant step forward in the game’s development. The first pre-alpha test, called ‘Preludes,’ is now available to backers, offering a glimpse into the game’s immersive world and gameplay.
Early Entry Into Soulframe
Players who purchase a Founders Pack will instantly gain access to Soulframe: Preludes and receive unique cosmetic items, including armor and weapons. These packs also include Wyld Pacts, which are essentially starting classes that let you customize your playstyle from the beginning – you can choose to be a heavily armored fighter, a quick and stealthy character, or a magic user. Digital Extremes designed these packs to speed up your initial progress, not to give players an unfair advantage, and this is a similar system they’ve used successfully in Warframe.
Soulframe is a big departure from its predecessor, offering a different experience in both how it plays and its story. While the previous game was a fast-paced sci-fi shooter, Soulframe takes place in a slower-paced fantasy world where nature is fighting back against a powerful, technologically advanced enemy. Players explore the island of Midrath, which is controlled by a machine-like race called the Ode, and take on the role of former Ode members who are now working to free the land and its creatures – including corrupted animals like wolves, bears, and deer, which serve as challenging bosses.
Soulframe’s art style blends natural, Celtic-inspired designs with the sleek, geometric shapes of its robotic enemies. The game’s atmosphere is further enhanced by a captivating soundtrack from Keith Power, ranging from enchanting melodies to epic, powerful themes.
More Gameplay, New Characters And A Rat Witch
During their recent livestream, Digital Extremes showed off extended gameplay footage. A key focus was Verminia, a unique rat witch character who will help players personalize their gear and create potions. She’s just one of several new creatures being added to the game, alongside the armored bear Bromius and a new enemy called Nimrod.
The team really values the feedback they’ve gotten from early testing. Even though the game isn’t finished yet, they plan to invite more players to try it out this year and will keep sharing updates through regular live streams.
A Promising Path Towards Release
Though still very early in development, the initial version of Soulframe is already promising, with a distinct style, satisfying combat, and immersive environments. Unlike the fast-paced action of Warframe, Soulframe emphasizes slower, more strategic close combat, which should be especially enjoyable for players who like action RPGs like Elden Ring.
Soulframe is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2025. Before then, fans who support the game early can get a first look at the world and start exploring the adventure Digital Extremes is creating.
