Chiefs President Reveals Promise to Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s big reputation is safe with the Kansas City Chiefs. 

The team’s president, Mark Donavan, revealed a promise he made to the 36-year-old NFL player early on in the player’s relationship with the Grammy-winning artist.

On December 1st, Mark explained on the Up and Adams Show that he told Travis Kelce they would treat his relationship with Taylor Swift just like any other player or coach’s relationship. He emphasized they wouldn’t try to profit from it or exploit it for publicity.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following the buzz around Travis and Taylor’s relationship, and I have to say, the team at Arrowhead Stadium has handled things beautifully. While other stadiums seem determined to get a shot of Taylor on the jumbotron, the folks at Arrowhead have respectfully allowed them some privacy, keeping their romance more low-key. It’s a classy move, and I really appreciate that they’re prioritizing the couple’s comfort.

Mark explained that for the past couple of years, whenever there were exciting plays in the stadium – a touchdown or a great catch – the focus was always on Taylor, particularly during his first season. However, they made a conscious decision not to display Taylor’s image on the stadium’s large screens, choosing to be respectful and avoid that practice altogether.

He wanted to treat them normally, so he stressed, “We’re not exploiting this situation.”

Mark also said the Chiefs didn’t play any Taylor Swift songs at the stadium, even when she was there to support Travis Kelce.

He added that they shared a joke during their first year working together: they always avoided playing Taylor Swift songs in the stadium when she was present.

Travis proposed to Taylor in August after dating for two years, and he carefully kept his personal life separate from his work.

Mark explained that Travis is a true team player who prioritizes his teammates. Travis himself emphasized wanting the focus to be on the team during games, saying, ‘When we’re in that stadium, it’s about us, and I want it to be about us.’ He believes this team-first mindset sets him apart.

And It’s clear that Taylor feels this respect from the Chiefs, as well. 

Mark was full of praise for Taylor, saying she’s been wonderful to work with and a truly exceptional person. He emphasized that their experience with her has been entirely positive, describing her as a real standout.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce first connected in July 2023 when Swift’s Eras Tour visited Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

Being a big Taylor Swift fan, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end wanted to give her a friendship bracelet with his jersey number on it while at her concert. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to get it to her because she was busy preparing for the show.

On the July 26th episode of his podcast, New Heights, Travis explained he was a little upset that Taylor Swift doesn’t speak before or after her concerts because she needs to conserve her voice for performing all 44 of her songs. He added that he was hoping to give her one of the friendship bracelets he’d made, but didn’t get the chance.

After jokingly talking about dropping the football – something he’d later call incredibly cool – Travis decided to take a chance and invited the famous singer to come see the Chiefs play at their home stadium, Arrowhead.

He explained on The Pat McAfee Show that he challenged Taylor Swift, saying he’d seen her perform at Arrowhead Stadium and suggested she come see him perform there too, to see who puts on a better show. He indicated something might happen soon.

Travis had grown a mustache, first showing it off in August during football training camp, and that’s how Taylor first met him.

He later recalled that his mustache and number 87 jersey were a memorable look during that time, and he was wearing them when he first met Taylor.

I’ve been following Travis and Taylor’s story closely, and a source told TopMob News that they started casually texting and chatting with each other around the beginning of September. It seemed like a really low-key start to getting to know each other!

“It’s been very low-key,” the insider explained, “as he’s been in season.”

Taylor accepted Travis’ invitation and went to Arrowhead Stadium to see him and the Kansas City Chiefs play the Chicago Bears, where she sat with his mother, Donna Kelce. After the game, Taylor and Travis were photographed showing affection for each other at a nearby bar.

Despite rumors that they first met in person at the time, the singer of “Karma” later explained that they had actually already spent a good deal of time getting to know each other.

As Taylor noted, “We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.” 

To show how close they were getting, Taylor brought a group of her friends – including Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Sophie Turner, Hugh Jackman, Sabrina Carpenter, and Antoni Porowski – to see the Chiefs play the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

As a huge Taylor and Travis fan, I’ve been noticing all the little clues, and this is a big one! Taylor is really becoming close with Brittany Mahomes, Patrick Mahomes’ wife and one of Travis’ best friends. They’ve been hanging out at games and even outside of football, which feels like a really strong sign that things between Taylor and Travis are getting serious. It’s so cute to see them all getting along!

The couple publicly showcased their relationship with a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live on October 14th. They continued their New York outing with the show’s after-party and a romantic dinner at the Waverly Inn.

During the NFL’s bye week, Travis flew to Argentina to see Taylor Swift perform on her Eras Tour. While there, at the November 11th show in Buenos Aires, he connected with Taylor’s father, Scott Swift, and even received a mention from Taylor during the concert.

“Karma is that guy on the Chiefs,” Taylor sang, “coming straight home to me.”

Following the performance, Taylor Swift reportedly rushed backstage and excitedly kissed Travis Kelce.

Taylor addressed the lavender craze surrounding her appearances at Travis’ games.

She told Time magazine that they’re simply supporting each other and enjoying being together, without worrying about what others think. This is a stark contrast to situations where people go to great lengths to keep relationships secret.

 

The famous singer made Travis’ game on December 17th a family event, bringing her father along to support her boyfriend.

Taylor and Travis celebrated New Year’s Eve together and shared a kiss at midnight on January 1st.

Taylor continued getting to know Travis’ family by spending time with his brother, Jason Kelce, and Jason’s wife, Kylie, at the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Buffalo Bills.

After the Chiefs won the AFC Championship and secured their place in the 2024 Super Bowl, Taylor joined Travis on the field to celebrate. They shared a kiss and told each other ‘I love you’.

“Tay, I’m gonna enjoy with the guys,” he told her. “I love you—so much it’s not funny.”

It was a super cute selfie of them backstage at her Eras Tour show in London, and get this – they were with Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their adorable kids, Prince George and Princess Charlotte! Talk about a royal meet-cute – it was a pretty amazing night, and a really fun picture to share.

During Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, NFL player Travis Kelce surprised fans by joining her onstage at Wembley Stadium in London. He appeared as a supporting performer during her song, “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” marking his second show at the venue and seventh overall on the tour.

In July 2025, Travis shared the first photos of him and Taylor together on Instagram. One cute picture, taken during dinner, also showed that they had set their phone lock screens to pictures of each other.

Okay, so you guys will NOT believe this! As a total New Heights fanatic, I nearly lost it when Taylor actually came on the podcast! It was like, a two-hour deep dive into her life with Travis and Jason, and she was SO open about everything – seriously, everything! But the BEST part? She finally announced her twelfth album, The Life of a Showgirl! It’s coming out October 3rd, and I’m already counting down the seconds. I’m obsessed, obviously!

Over two years after Travis mentioned Taylor on his podcast – a moment fans quickly noticed – the couple announced their engagement. They playfully referenced Taylor’s song “So High School” in an August 26th Instagram post, captioning engagement photos with, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
