In Old School RuneScape (OSRS), the Marlin Rank is the best possible achievement for completing any Barracuda Trials, including the Jubbly Jive.
This challenge is quite difficult. The murky water and the moving platforms can make it tough to find the fastest way through. But it’s definitely beatable with a little planning!
Okay, so I’ve figured out a really good way to breeze through this trial and get the highest rank. I’m going to share my tips and the exact path I take to make it super easy for you guys!
Jubbly Jive Marlin Rank Guide | OSRS
Setting Up

We highly recommend using the RuneLite client before you begin. It lets you use Ground Markers (or Tile Markers) to easily see the path for the trial, just like we explained in our Barracuda Trials guide. This will make things much easier!
Plus, you don’t have to manually mark locations anymore. You can find all the Tile Markers on the official Old School RuneScape wiki.

To get the markers for a route, simply click the “Copy tile markers” button on that route’s page. We suggest trying the Marlin Rank Alternate route – it’s a bit easier and should allow you to finish in around 5 minutes and 10 seconds.

After copying the markers, simply right-click on your in-game minimap and choose “Import Ground Markers.” This will clearly show you the path to follow, making the trial significantly easier.
By the way, don’t forget to craft and install a Wind Catcher on your boat – you’ll need it to reach the Marlin rank! You can start making one as soon as you earn the Wind Mote by completing the Shark rank in the Jubbly Jive challenge.
With that set up, let’s now go over the trial itself.
Trial Breakdown

If you’ve already set things up as described earlier, running the trial should be easy. We still suggest checking the route map for guidance.
As a fan, I really appreciate this detailed route map! It helps me understand the tricky parts of the course, and clearly shows the path I need to take. It’s also great that the map uses the same colors as the tile markers we saw earlier – that makes it super easy to follow along!

As a quick reminder, the challenges in the Marlin trial are similar to those you’ve faced before. The biggest one is the polluted water, which will slow your boat down.
Now, you can use the Wind Mote you got from the Wind Catcher on your boat. This lets you quickly travel through the dirty water without slowing down.
Looking at the map, you’ll find it’s faster to use this route several times. This is particularly helpful on the first lap, which is highlighted in green.

Besides gathering crates, you’ll also have to collect frogs from the Barracuda ships along the course. Then, you’ll throw these frogs at flags to lure a Jubbly towards the white flag – you can track your progress in the top-left corner of the screen.
The route map at the beginning of this section shows where the flags are, marked with colored circles. Colored arrows on the map also indicate when to throw frogs at them.
Now it’s time to focus on practicing the course. The markers and map have already been designed for the fastest time, so just work on running it smoothly!
That wraps up our guide to earning the Jubbly Jive Marlin Rank in Old School RuneScape! We hope it helps you succeed in the Barracuda Trial and prepare for The Gwenith Glide.
