Red Dead Redemption – Xbox Series X/S Players Facing Issues in Getting Free Upgrade for Xbox 360 Version

Now that Red Dead Redemption is available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2, players who already own the game on older consoles (Xbox One, PS4, or the original Switch) can upgrade. However, some Xbox players are running into a problem: those who originally upgraded from the Xbox 360 version to the Xbox One version haven’t been able to upgrade again to the newest Xbox Series X/S version.

Interestingly, players on the original Xbox One haven’t experienced this problem. Rockstar Games has confirmed the bug on social media and is collaborating with Microsoft to fix it quickly.

The game developer announced on social media that they’re fixing a problem preventing Xbox players from upgrading their digital copy of Red Dead Redemption from the Xbox 360 version to the newer Xbox Series X/S version. They are working with Microsoft and appreciate players’ patience.

Good news for players having trouble with Red Dead Redemption! According to PureXbox, Rockstar is starting to fix the issue by offering a free upgrade from the Xbox 360 version to a newer version of the game. Some users are already seeing this upgrade available in their Xbox stores, listed as completely free with a 100% discount. While the offer currently has a 13-day expiration date, it’s expected that all Xbox 360 owners will eventually receive the upgrade for free.

If you don’t already own Red Dead Redemption, upgrading to the latest version costs $49.99. But PlayStation Plus Extra/Deluxe and GTA+ members can get it at no extra cost. The upgrade improves the game’s graphics and lets it run at 4K resolution with a smooth 60 frames per second. Players on the new Nintendo Switch 2 will also enjoy a 60 FPS experience, plus features like DLSS and mouse and keyboard support.

Players who own Red Dead Redemption on PS4 or Nintendo Switch can transfer their saved progress to the newer version of the game. It’s not yet clear if Xbox One players will be able to do the same when they upgrade to the Xbox Series X/S.

Although it was the first game released, Red Dead Redemption’s story actually takes place after the events of Red Dead Redemption 2. Players control John Marston, who is sent by the government to dismantle the last members of Dutch Van der Linde’s gang. A recent re-release of the game also includes the Undead Nightmare expansion, which offers a unique horror experience set in the Wild West, featuring zombies and other frightening monsters.
