The story behind Craig Melvin‘s earring will melt your heart.
While interviewing Jamie Lee Curtis on Today, the show’s host was surprised when she turned the tables and asked him about his piercing.
“What’s the blue dot in your ear?” she asked on the Nov. 3 episode of Today. “Tell me the story.”
Craig explained he got his ear pierced after a nerve-wracking experience taking his 9-year-old daughter, Sybil, to get hers done.
He remembered his daughter once wanting to get her ears pierced but getting nervous at the last minute. On a whim, he asked if she’d be brave enough if he got it done too, and when she said yes, he went ahead and got his ears pierced as well – and that’s how it happened.
Jamie was understandably moved when the morning show host finished sharing the story, especially because the host is also a parent to Sybil and Delano, age 11, with his wife, Lindsay Czarniak.
“Oh, come on!” she exclaimed. “That’s gorgeous.”
Craig quickly changed the subject, admitting he was embarrassed by Jamie’s kind words. He had told the story of getting his piercing before Sybil turned five.
“It was good for the family,” he told Today.com back in 2021. “It was great bonding.”
This isn’t the only confession that Craig has made on Today recently, either.
While recently co-hosting Today with Jenna & Friends with Jenna Bush Hager, the 46-year-old admitted something surprising: despite being a part of Today since 2018, he’s never actually watched the show.
During the November 3rd show, he commented on the colorful studio, saying, ‘This is a nice set.’ He then surprisingly added, ‘I’ve actually never watched the show before.’
Jenna, who is 43, was shocked when he said that. She responded, “That’s really rude! Were you even listening to him say he’s never seen the show?”
Craig explained what happened, but also acknowledged he should make an effort to watch his colleague’s show.
“I’m usually in transit,” he explained. “I could probably watch some of it.”
