Stranger Things Copying Harry Potter & Voldemort Makes Me Even More Worried for the Rest of Season 5

There’s a growing concern for Will Byers in the final season of Stranger Things, as his connection to Vecna mirrors the one between Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort. From the very beginning, when Will was taken to the Upside Down, he’s been central to the show’s story. Now, in season 5, his importance is even greater, as he’s come to fully understand his link to Vecna and the dark forces of the Upside Down – a connection similar to how Harry Potter was linked to Voldemort as one of his Horcruxes.

In the Harry Potter stories, when Voldemort killed Harry’s mother, he accidentally turned Harry into a Horcrux – essentially, a piece of Voldemort’s soul latched onto him. This created a powerful connection between them, similar to how Will Byers became linked to Vecna after his first trip to the Upside Down, where Vecna exposed him to particles of the Mind Flayer. Because Harry had to sacrifice himself to defeat Voldemort, fans are understandably concerned about what might happen to Will Byers in the final season of Stranger Things.

What Will Byers & Vecna’s Similarities to Harry Potter & Voldemort Mean for Stranger Things’ Upcoming Finale

In the 2007 book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Voldemort attempts to kill Harry Potter with the killing curse. However, Harry survives because the curse only destroys the fragment of Voldemort’s soul within him, allowing him to come back to life and ultimately defeat Voldemort. While Harry had a positive outcome, the final episodes of Stranger Things season 5 – releasing on Christmas Day with a longer finale on New Year’s Eve – might not be as kind to Will Byers.

Given the connection between Will Byers and Vecna mirrors that of Harry Potter and Voldemort, it’s possible Will may have to make the ultimate sacrifice – his life – to defeat Vecna and destroy the hive mind controlling him. This sacrifice could also affect others Vecna has connected to the Mind Flayer, like Holly Wheeler and Derek Turnbow, potentially impacting a total of twelve people. While this would be a devastating conclusion to Stranger Things, it might be the only way to stop Vecna’s attacks.

Okay, so everyone’s been buzzing about whether Will Byers is going to die in the final season of Stranger Things, and honestly, it makes a lot of sense. Remember, the whole story started with his disappearance, so bringing things full circle with a sacrifice from him would be incredibly powerful. Seeing Noah Schnapp screaming “RUN!” in the trailers? I think that moment might be during the ultimate showdown, and it could be because Will is actually holding Vecna, maybe as the only way to stop him for good. It’s going to be heartbreaking if it happens, but it feels like a tragically necessary end for his character arc in these final episodes.
