The sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen is nearing its end, but fans are still waiting for news about a major character from the original series. Although Jujutsu Kaisen finished its initial run last year, the creator, Gege Akutami, unexpectedly released a sequel earlier this year. This new series takes place decades after the original, making it challenging to bring back familiar characters in a satisfying way.
The sequel series, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is set around 70 to 80 years after the original story, so it hasn’t featured many returning characters. The story has confirmed that most of the original cast have passed away, but it still hasn’t revealed what happened to Megumi Fushiguro. While we’ve seen what became of the other two main characters, Megumi hasn’t appeared or even been mentioned in the current chapters.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Already Revealed Yuji and Nobara
The Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo series is heading towards its final battles, and the latest chapter gives fans a new look at Nobara Kugisaki. She’s still alive, though years have passed since the original story. Nobara also points out that Yuji hasn’t aged and is exhausted by constantly attending funerals for his friends. Notably, Megumi hasn’t been mentioned in any of these updates, leaving his status unknown.
The story continues in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, showing that Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin went on to have children, ensuring their magical lineage continues within the Jujutsu Sorcerer world. However, Megumi didn’t receive a similar update about his future. He was also absent from the epilogue chapters following the main story’s conclusion, leaving his fate uncertain. Whether he’s still alive or not by the time of the sequel, Megumi remains a vital character to the series.
What’s Going on With Megumi?
Throughout the original Jujutsu Kaisen series, Megumi, despite being one of the main three characters, often felt like a supporting player. When Sukuna possessed his body, he was sidelined from the final fight and didn’t meaningfully participate again until the very end. This pattern of minimizing Megumi’s importance continued throughout the series; important storylines for his character, such as his attempts to rescue his sister, were often overlooked or quickly glossed over in favor of focusing on other events.
It’s become typical to hear nothing about Megumi’s role in the upcoming Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. It’s interesting to remember that the author initially planned Jujutsu Kaisen with Megumi as the main character, considering how his story unfolded in the original series. Now, it seems the sequel is following a similar path. This makes any future news about him even more welcome.
