Will ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ Be the Next ‘Paddington’?
The captivating music in the teaser trailer is by Isabella Summers, the keyboard player for Florence + the Machine. She’s also writing an original song for the film. With a talented composer, a strong cast, and a team with a history of making successful family movies, The Magic Faraway Tree looks promising.
First published in 1939, The Enchanted Wood and the subsequent Magic Faraway Tree series have been cherished by children for generations. Attempts to bring the stories to the big screen began in 2014 with director Sam Mendes. By 2017, Studio Canal owned the film rights and hired Simon Farnaby to write the screenplay. When some Studio Canal staff started their own company, Elysian Film Group, they brought The Magic Faraway Tree with them. Director Ben Gregor and Simon Farnaby decided to modernize the story for the film and chose the title The Magic Faraway Tree, the name of the second book in the series.
The movie The Magic Faraway Tree will come out in the United Kingdom on March 27, 2026. There’s no confirmed release date for the United States yet. If it were released on the same weekend as in the UK, it would be competing with Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars, the horror film They Will Kill You, and the comedy Fantasy Life. While it would be the only family-friendly movie opening that weekend, it would face tough competition the following week from The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Similar to the Paddington films, the movie might be released in North America several months after its UK debut, allowing it time to gain momentum.
