The developers at 34BigThings have announced that their racing game, Carmageddon: Rogue Shift, will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store) in early 2026.
Here is an overview of the game, via its Steam page:
About
The legendary Carmageddon engine roars back to life, reimagined for a new era of vehicular combat.
Carmageddon returns with fast-paced, challenging vehicular combat! Battle zombie hordes in a post-apocalyptic world, constantly adapting and upgrading your car to survive. It’s the classic Carmageddon experience, reimagined and even more intense.
The Long Night
The year is 2050, and the world you know is a post‑apocalyptic wasteland.
Nightmarish creatures called the Wasted are attacking humanity, and every night, people are forced to hide in their skyscrapers to survive the onslaught.
There is just one chance to escape all this: the Carmageddon.
These dangerous competitions offer participants power, status, and great rewards. The ultimate prize is the chance to undertake a treacherous quest to reach the spaceport hidden beyond the mountains – the last hope for escaping this doomed planet.
You’re thrown into the chaotic world of Carmageddon as just one of many drivers. Starting with a beat-up car, limited fuel, and a cobbled-together weapon, you’ll battle rival gangs like the Autoscum and other dangerous opponents to stay alive. Every race is a chance to earn parts and upgrades, bringing you closer to escaping the madness.
As the night descends, the Wasted take the streets, and you with them.
Drive to Survive
We’ve taken the wild, chaotic energy of the original Carmageddon and completely rebuilt it. We combined what made the original great with modern racing ideas to create a fast-paced, exciting, and easy-to-pick-up combat racing experience.
- 15 Upgradeable Vehicles – FWD, RWD, and AWD, each with unique weight and suspension
- Metal‑on‑Metal Car Combat – Crash, shove, boost and side‑bash rivals
- 13 Weapon Classes – From shotguns to railguns, all fully upgradable
- Over 80 Perks – Craft outrageous synergies for destruction racing supremacy
- Dynamic Weather and Day‑Night Cycle – Rain slicks the tarmac, fog shrouds ambushes
- Elite and Boss Events – Colossal war‑rigs, corrupted Enforcers, and endless zombie hordes
- Extensive Visual Damage Model – Windshields, hood, doors, bumpers and trunk lid will bend, crumple, hang and detach.
The Roguelite Campaign
Every Campaign run offers a unique journey through a randomly generated graph.
Earn Credits by winning matches and defeating opponents. You’ll also get rewards for skillful moves like eliminating enemies, drifting, jumping, and performing flicks.
Plan your path carefully to find Shops. These are safe places where you can fix your vehicle, exchange weapons, and add new abilities – there are over 80 to unlock!
Adapt to the dynamically increasing difficulty and conquer elite events and bosses.
Every playthrough is unique thanks to different paths, goals, and constantly shifting weather and time of day.
Even after your car is destroyed in Carmageddon, the game continues. A new driver will take the wheel, restarting the challenge in a classic roguelite style. Between races, you can spend Beatcoins in the Black Market to unlock permanent upgrades and new content. Discover powerful combinations of these upgrades to build the ultimate vehicle – the carnage never truly stops!
Opponents
Carmageddon attracts a rough crowd – a mix of dangerous drivers, outcasts, and criminals. Some racers will aggressively try to take the lead, while others will relentlessly pursue and ram you off the road. Expect others to ambush you and open fire on your vehicle. The competition varies in skill and equipment, and you might even recognize a few faces among the racers.
The Enforcers, a ruthless and corrupt police group, control the roads and prey on unmutated survivors. If you’re unlucky enough to be stopped, they’ll likely rob your vehicle for parts and ammunition.
Each district in the city is ruled by a powerful enemy called “the Boss.” These are the most heavily armed and formidable vehicles you’ll encounter. To progress in Carmageddon, you must defeat each Boss before moving on to the next level.
Each race is a tough challenge that requires you to be good at driving, close-combat fighting, and using ranged weapons against a wide variety of unpredictable enemies. To succeed, you’ll need to improve your car, find upgrades and weapons that work well together, and consistently drive skillfully.
The Wasted
After a devastating World War Three and a wave of natural disasters, Earth was left in ruins. To combat widespread hunger, a food supplement called MiVis was created and quickly became a staple in everyone’s diet.
But over time, consistently using MiVis caused a terrible change at the cellular level, turning people into the Wasted – monstrous, hollow beings overwhelmed by the supplement’s harmful effects.
Now, they’re a large group of mindless, highly aggressive creatures that attack anyone still alive as soon as night falls.
A single enemy is easily overcome by your fast car. However, the challenge increases when multiple enemies appear. Speed into the crowds of shambling figures on the track, clearing a path through them! Just be careful not to get completely surrounded – too many enemies will close in and destroy your car with their bare hands.
Then there are the Special Wasted – truly terrifying, mutated versions of the already dangerous Wasted, transformed into something even further removed from humanity.
They may explode, shoot you from a distance, lunge at your car, or produce even nastier surprises.
They pose a real danger and tend to show up late at night.
Finally, you’ll face the worst of them all – a creature spoken of only in hushed tones, and rarely glimpsed. It’s the monster protecting the single path to safety, and it will be your last, most difficult test.
