Chanel Takes Over the NYC Subway at Full Speed for Métiers d’Art Show

All aboard Chanel’s underground train.

As a style insider, I have to tell you, the buzz around Bottega Veneta’s latest show was incredible! Their new artistic director, Matthieu Blazy, really outdid himself with the 2026 Métiers d’Art collection. He chose the most unexpected – and amazing – location: an old, disused subway station right here in Lower Manhattan. Everyone descended on the spot the minute the show was announced – it was the place to be!

Models showcased their looks in front of a train as a star-studded front row watched, including Solange, Dapper Dan, Linda Evangelista, Kristen Stewart, Tilda Swinton, Bowen Yang, Teyana Taylor, Riley Keough, Meg Ryan, and Jon Bon Jovi. Chanel ambassadors A$AP Rocky and Margaret Qualley, both featured in Chanel’s latest short film, were also in attendance, along with Ayo Edebiri. Many attendees wore vintage plaid, leather, and fitted coats in various colors.

Indeed, Matthieu wanted this show to capture New York’s cultural diversity.

The collection really focuses on the people who might wear it,” he said in an interview with Chanel’s newsletter, as reported by W Magazine. “We imagined characters like a 1970s journalist and a powerful businesswoman from the 80s, and the embroidery on each piece is designed to reflect their personality – to create a special connection between the clothing and the wearer.

Considering this, the designer—having started at Chanel last December—thought the city’s bustling public transportation offered a great opportunity to observe how people express their individual styles.

He added that what struck him most about New York was how unique it is. He said you really never know who you’ll encounter when riding the subway, which makes it special.

In fact, Margaret enjoyed seeing this location as a fashion backdrop.

After the show, the actor from The Substance told WWD they’d ridden the subway many times before, but had never seen it looking so beautiful and glamorous. They described it as a truly New York experience.

Emily Ratajkowskiechoed the sentiment, noting the runway reminded her of all her inner personas.

I ride the subway pretty often, and I often imagine myself as different versions of a woman – sometimes a mom, sometimes glamorous in a gown – while I’m on it,” the model explained. “It inspires me to go home and try to recreate the outfits I see.”

As for the main Chanel look from the event that’s dominating her fashion moodboard?

She described her outfit: a see-through raincoat worn over a cheetah-print top covered in sequins. She said she especially loved the combination of patterns and colors.
