Why Joe Manganiello, Fiancée Caitlin O’Connor Moved Out of Los Angeles

Joe Manganiello made a pretty good deal on his new living situation.

Just five months after proposing to Caitlin O’Connor, the host of Deal or No Deal Island revealed they’ve recently relocated from Los Angeles to Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh.

In a recent interview with People magazine, she revealed that Los Angeles has been home for both of them for over 20 years. While she was born in L.A., she grew up in Pittsburgh, making it their shared hometown.

Caitlin mentioned she and Joe, who was married to Sofía Vergara for seven years before they split in 2023, have become close because they both come from Pennsylvania.

What really makes us click, I think, is that we grew up in the same place. We just get each other because we share that same hometown background and understand the same things. It’s a really special connection for us as a couple.

She added, “It’s beautiful to be back home together.”

Caitlin and Joe, who went public with their relationship in December 2023, say their new house feels like something straight out of a beautiful postcard.

“I’ve never been in a more beautiful neighborhood in Pittsburgh,” she shared. “It’s just idyllic.”

Although she’s just now sharing the story of their move, it wasn’t a spontaneous decision. Caitlin explained that they had been considering it for some time.

Even though Caitlin and Joe are moving out of Los Angeles, they’ll still travel to New York and L.A. for work. However, Pittsburgh will be where they live most of the time.

The actress from Winning Time is thrilled to be starting a new chapter with Joe and is excited about planning their wedding.

“We’re thrilled!” Caitlin shared with TopMob News last month. “I’m just enjoying each day as it comes.”

While Joe and Caitlin are staying in the entertainment business, other celebrities have chosen to leave Hollywood. Here’s a look at some stars who have moved on from the City of Stars.

After 19 seasons, The Ellen DeGeneres Show ended in 2022 following reports of a negative and difficult workplace. These reports led to an internal investigation, the firing of several producers, and public criticism.

Ellen DeGeneres recently returned to performing with her Netflix stand-up special, For Your Approval, released in September 2024. Before the special’s release, she announced her plans to leave Hollywood.

During her stand-up tour, Ellen announced to her audience that she’s retiring after her upcoming Netflix special, according to SFGate. She and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have since moved to England. Ellen confirmed to Richard Bacon in July 2025 that they relocated in November 2024 following Donald Trump’s reelection.

Tyra Banks, the host of America’s Next Top Model, decided to move to Australia partly to focus on her ice cream company, SMiZE and Dream. She explained on Today with Jenna & Friends that her business had initially focused on selling to other businesses, like airlines and cruise ships, and she’d been traveling to Australia frequently because that’s where her ice cream was being produced. She grew to love the country with each visit.

Banks also recognized Australia as a strong market for her product, noting that the top three countries for ice cream consumption are the United States, New Zealand, and Australia.

She ultimately moved there with her son, York (whose father is her ex, Erik Asla), and her boyfriend, Louis Bélanger-Martin, sharing that Australia has been a wonderful experience for her and her family.

Eva Longoria, known for her role on Desperate Housewives, has moved from Los Angeles and now divides her time between Mexico and Spain with her husband, José Bastón, and their son, Santiago. She explained to Marie Claire that while she spent her adult life in Los Angeles, the city had changed, and the pandemic accelerated her decision to leave. She cited issues like homelessness and taxes as contributing factors, though she doesn’t want to criticize California.

Longoria clarified to The View: Behind the Table that her move wasn’t due to politics, despite speculation. She initially went to Spain for a six-month filming project and then to Mexico for another, and has been based there for years since. She feels fortunate to be able to leave the U.S. when many others can’t, expressing anxiety and sadness for those who are stuck. Despite the move, Longoria remains busy with acting roles, including recent appearances in Only Murders in the Building and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip.

Actor Richard Gere has relocated from Chicago to Spain with his family. He explained on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in November 2024 that his wife, Alejandra Silva, who is from Galicia, Spain, encouraged the move, and they plan to live in Madrid for several years. Gere is thrilled about the opportunity for their young sons, Alexander and James, to thrive in a bilingual environment. He also has an adult son, Homer, with his ex-wife, Carey Lowell. The whole family seems to be enjoying the change. In a January 2025 interview with Elle España, Gere shared that they are happier than ever and really hitting their stride.

Singer Christina Milian and her family have settled in Paris. She’s been with her French husband, Matt Pokora, for seven or eight years, and for the past three or four years, they split their time between the U.S. and France. They recently decided to make Paris their permanent home so their children – Violet (from a previous marriage to The-Dream), and sons Isaiah and Kenna (with Matt) – could attend school there.

Milian says it’s been a wonderful experience. Her kids are thriving, they’re all learning French, and she enjoys an active lifestyle. She balances family life with her work by taking advantage of the time difference, working ahead while the kids are asleep. She describes it as a healthy and fulfilling balance.

Lindsay Lohan is frustrated by the ongoing speculation surrounding her departure from Los Angeles. She recently explained that a demanding work schedule combined with intense media attention in the early 2000s made things difficult.

In a March 2024 interview with Bustle, Lohan expressed annoyance that her career was often overshadowed by paparazzi and gossip. She wished the focus had remained on her work and felt the constant media frenzy spiraled out of control, prompting her desire for a more private life.

While she did move to London and then Dubai, and even started opening beach clubs in Greece, Lohan also sought a life away from the spotlight for these reasons.

Lindsay Lohan wondered if she’d ever find love, admitting she worried it might never happen. She realized she needed to focus on herself before things could change, and eventually, opportunities she truly wanted began to appear.

She did find love with Bader Shammas, and they married in 2022, welcoming their son, Luai, in 2023.

The couple currently lives in Dubai, but Lindsay hasn’t left acting behind. She’s continued to appear in films like Our Little Secret, Irish Wish, and Freakier Friday.

Josh decided to leave Hollywood after realizing he needed a change of pace. He explained to People magazine in July 2024 that Hollywood isn’t just a location, but a mindset. Being constantly surrounded by talk of the movie industry, he felt, would limit his life. He wanted to be around people with diverse interests to broaden his own horizons and find more fulfillment – what he calls ‘the spice of life.’

So, Josh, along with his wife, Tamsin Egerton, and their four children, moved to the countryside of Hampshire, England. He told The Guardian in July 2024 that while life with four kids is busy, it also allows him to focus on what truly matters. Despite the move, Josh has continued to act, appearing in films like Verity, Fight or Flight, and Trap.

If you don’t follow Jesse on social media, you might be surprised to learn he no longer lives in Los Angeles. In a February 2025 interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, the A Real Pain star revealed he’s lived in Indiana for the past ten years, finding it a more comfortable and stable environment. Despite being an Oscar nominee, Jesse lives a fairly ordinary life with his wife, Anna Strout, and son, Banner. He explained that he avoids social media and doesn’t spend much time networking within the industry, which helps him maintain a sense of normalcy. His wife is a teacher, and his son isn’t particularly interested in movies, further distancing him from the pressures of Hollywood and allowing him to avoid constantly worrying about his standing in the industry.

Eliza Dushku, known for her roles in shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the movie Bring It On, announced in September 2024 that she’s now a certified psychedelic-assisted therapist and is continuing her education in the field of mental health.

She explained to Boston Magazine that she was able to change her life’s path to prioritize her own well-being, with the intention of then being able to help others. She felt it was important to share her personal growth, newfound peace, and strong sense of purpose, as she believes this is truly what she’s meant to do.

The actress best known for playing a character on The Flintstones shared that she moved to Ireland with her son, Clay, in January 2025. She’s currently working on becoming an Irish citizen because of her family’s roots there. While she mentioned recent political events as a factor in her decision to move, she hasn’t ruled out the possibility of returning to her home country in the future.

In a TikTok video, she shared that she misses her children, friends, and her life back home. She’s working on building a new life in her current country, and says her family will think about returning to America once it’s safe and everyone there has equal rights.

Evangeline Lilly, known for her role in Ant-Man and the Wasp, has said she’s stepping away from acting for an unspecified amount of time after two decades in the business.

In a June 2024 Instagram post, Evangeline shared how happy and at peace she feels while pursuing her dreams. She expressed gratitude for her life and explained that while choosing a path less traveled – one focused on purpose rather than just money and recognition – can be daunting, it ultimately brings a deep sense of satisfaction.

She’s not ruling out a return to Hollywood completely, saying, “I could see myself going back someday, but right now, I’m happy where I am.”

Since finishing his role in the 2019 Netflix series V-Wars, the actor best known for The Vampire Diaries has been focusing on a personal mission: fighting climate change by working to improve soil health around the world.

Ian, who has two children with his wife Nikki Reed, took a break from acting over four years ago to focus on his family, develop his businesses, and get his films released. He was discussing the launch of his 2020 documentary, Kiss the Ground, and its sequel, Common Ground, both of which highlight the importance of regenerative farming. He shared this with TopMob News in November 2023.

Looking ahead, the actor shared his plans to become a rancher and focus on building lasting brands – including his bourbon and health/wellness company. He’s deeply committed to sustainable farming and healthy soil practices, which are central to his and his family’s lifestyle. He explained that this future is his true passion, and it’s the reason he cares so much about these things – it’s simply who he is and who he’s determined to become.

In a February 2021 episode of her podcast, Empty Inside, former iCarly star Jennette McCurdy shared with guest Anna Faris that she had stopped acting a few years prior. She’s now pursuing writing and directing opportunities, alongside hosting the podcast.

Jennette shared that she deeply regrets many of the acting roles she took in the past, detailing these feelings in her 2022 memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died. She expressed feeling resentful towards her career and unfulfilled by the parts she played, describing them as cheesy and embarrassing. Having worked on those shows from age 13 to 21, she was already feeling self-conscious by age 15, noting that her peers weren’t impressed by her television work.

Despite her past experiences, she hasn’t ruled out returning to acting. She explained to TopMob News in October 2022 that writing her book helped her consider acting in a new light, free from the pressures she felt before. She believes she might be open to it again, but only if she were to write a role specifically for herself.

It seemed like a pretty easy decision. The chance to marry Prince Harry, devote ourselves to the charities we care about, and even wear the Queen’s tiaras would make leaving Hollywood completely worthwhile.

As a longtime admirer, I’ve always been fascinated by the parallels between Meghan and Grace Kelly – both traded Hollywood for royal life! Meghan left her life in Toronto and her role on Suits to join the royal family, but now that she and Harry are independent and living in California, she’s starting to build a new career. It’s so exciting to see her back in the spotlight! She’s already released the docuseries Harry & Meghan on Netflix, and we’re all anticipating her lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan, coming in 2025. Plus, she’s launched a podcast and her own brand, As Ever – it’s wonderful to see her pursuing her passions and creating new things!

After starring in over 40 films since she began her career with 1994’s The Mask, the actress really needed a rest when she finished filming Annie in 2014.

She told Gwyneth Paltrow that she realized she wanted a different lifestyle. After years of intense work and filmmaking, she felt burnt out. She explained that making a movie is incredibly demanding—you’re committed for long hours every day for months, leaving no room for anything else in your life.

Cameron Diaz had many interests she wanted to pursue, including writing – she’d already had success with her books The Body Book (2013) and The Longevity Book (2016) – and starting a family with her husband, Benji Madden. Although she told InStyle in 2019 that she didn’t miss acting and was focused on wellness, it seemed she might be open to returning to performing at least one more time.

Jamie Foxx explained to TopMob News that convincing Cameron Diaz to star in the 2025 Netflix movie Back in Action involved a lot of pleading. “We were practically begging her to do it again,” he said. “We adore her and have been eagerly awaiting her return – it’s going to be amazing!”

The actor stated firmly that he wouldn’t return to the show after completing his five years on Empire. When Extra asked Terrence Howard about his plans before the sixth and final season aired in 2019, he said he was finished with acting and no longer wanted to play roles.

I’ve been a huge fan of his for years, so it’s bittersweet to hear him talk about retiring. Even after coming back for a few roles, he announced in 2022, while promoting his The Best Man: The Final Chapters series, that he feels he’s given everything he has to acting. He told Entertainment Tonight that he’s really enjoying seeing fresh, new talent emerge and doesn’t want to just keep repeating what he’s already done – he wants to let the next generation shine. It’s a graceful exit from a brilliant career, and I respect his decision so much.

Even with the previous concerns, Howard has continued to act, appearing in shows like Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist and the Netflix film Shirley. He also has several other projects planned for the future.

After his character, King Joffrey, died on the show in 2014, the 21-year-old actor told Entertainment Weekly that he was leaving acting. He explained that he’d been working since he was eight years old and simply wasn’t enjoying it as much anymore.

Jack, no longer the child star he once was, felt some of the excitement had faded. He explained that the idea of acting as a career felt different. “Before, it was just something fun to do with friends or during the summer,” he said. “I really enjoyed it, but when you depend on something for income, it changes how you feel about it. It’s not that I dislike it, I just don’t want it to be my job.”

After a six-year hiatus, Jack returned to acting in 2020 with a role in the BBC series Out of Her Mind. Since then, he’s also been in films like Rebecca’s Boyfriend and In the Land of Saints and Sinners, and TV shows including Safe Harbor and The Famous Five.

After becoming famous for her role in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Jennifer Aniston married actor Kevin Kline in 1989. They decided to alternate work schedules so they could both be available to care for their children, Owen and Greta. Greta is now a singer known as Frankie Cosmos.

He added that Phoebe has consistently prioritized staying home with her children whenever she was scheduled to work. While she made a brief appearance in her friend Jennifer Jason Leigh’s 2001 independent film, The Anniversary Party, Cates primarily focuses on running her New York City store, Blue Tree.

During the peak of his success with movies like Ghostbusters and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, the actor took a break from filmmaking after his wife sadly passed away from breast cancer in 1991. He wanted to dedicate his time to raising his children, Rachel and Mitchell.

As a pop culture enthusiast, I’ve always said some stars just stay relevant, and Rick Moranis is a perfect example! It’s been a while since he’s been on the big screen – actually, not since 1997 – and he even turned down a fun cameo in the recent Ghostbusters remake. But the outpouring of concern when news broke about an incident in New York City in 2020 really proved how much he means to people. And now, fantastic news! He’s coming back to acting, teaming up with Josh Gad in the new Disney movie, Shrunk. I, for one, am thrilled!

After marrying fashion designer Adam Kimmel in 2010, actress Drew Barrymore suggested she was considering stepping back from acting. She told Vogue that most acting roles require a lot of intimate scenes, and that wasn’t something she wanted to pursue. She explained that while she and her husband had a strong relationship, she needed a truly exceptional role to justify taking on potentially difficult or compromising material – something worthwhile on the other side of that challenge.

After her son, Martin, joined his sister, Louisanna, in 2014, she firmly decided to step away from acting. She told Us Weekly in 2016 that she felt like an outsider and was now focused on being a mom. She also mentioned she helps her husband, Kimmel, with his work and enjoys painting, but her children are her main priority, which is why she stopped pursuing film roles.

She’d built a successful career with roles in popular shows like Ally McBeal, Nip/Tuck, Arrested Development, and Scandal. After all that, the Australian actress began to feel like it was time for a change.

Turning 45, I started thinking about trying something completely new and challenging,” she shared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2018. “I had a good idea of what my acting career would look like for the next decade or two, so I decided to leave acting and start my own business instead.”

Her company, General Public, which creates art for everyone, was almost complete – she just needed to finish one final piece.

I spoke with Mitch Hurwitz, the creator of Arrested Development, and told him I was done with acting, so I wouldn’t be in a potential season five. He was very understanding and supportive, and we had a good talk. Surprisingly, he ended up writing me into five episodes anyway.

It’s understandable why, after winning three Oscars, an actor might consider what else there is to achieve. Following his sixth Academy Award nomination for the 2017 film Phantom Thread, the actor announced through his representative that he was retiring from acting. The statement expressed his deep gratitude to everyone he’d worked with and to his audiences over the years, and clarified that this was a personal decision, with no further comments to be made.

Just as Daniel Day-Lewis had announced his retirement from acting, a new project drew him back in. In October 2024, Focus Features revealed he would star in Anemone, a film he co-wrote with his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, who will also be directing.

After finding fame on Good Luck Charlie, she decided to focus on her education in 2018. She went on to earn both a master’s degree and a PhD from MIT, and later attended Harvard Law School.

On top of everything else, Bridgit also started her own company, Northwood Space, in February 2023. The company is building ground stations that will help transmit and receive data from satellites, and Bridgit is serving as its CEO.
