Marvel Studios has announced a significant gap between the next two Avengers movies, something fans haven’t experienced before. After a seven-year wait following 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, the fifth Avengers film will bring together heroes from different universes, including the Fantastic Four and the original X-Men. While fans are excited about this reunion, the long delay before Avengers 6 is unprecedented and may be disappointing for many.
Disney has canceled a planned Marvel movie for July 2027, meaning there will be no Marvel Cinematic Universe films released between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. This is the first time ever that a year will pass between Avengers movies without any other Marvel films hitting theaters in between.
The scrapped project was widely believed to be a significant part of Phase 6, possibly a third Doctor Strange movie or a sequel to Shang-Chi. Now that the release date has been given to The Simpsons Movie 2, the long wait between Doomsday and Secret Wars continues, meaning fans will have to wait a full year for the Multiverse Saga to finish.
Marvel is facing ongoing issues with release dates. The recent changes to their schedule mean the longest-ever gap between Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films during the current ‘Multiverse Saga’ is now expected. Fans will have to wait 371 days between the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July 2025 and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
It’s not surprising that Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, is reportedly unhappy with Marvel Studios’ limited movie plans for 2026 – currently just two films, Brand New Day and Doomsday. Marvel is significantly scaling back the number of projects it releases, both in cinemas and on Disney+. After releasing over 25 live-action shows and movies since 2021 at a rapid pace, they’ve now dramatically slowed down production.
Even though the recent Multiverse Saga, particularly Phase 6, hasn’t been as strong as previous Marvel phases, the studio is already looking ahead with big plans after the Secret Wars storyline.
