Forgotten Transformers Show Returns With Final 2 Episodes

Since 1984, the Transformers have been a huge part of popular culture, with the ongoing battle between the heroic Autobots and the villainous Decepticons appearing in many different formats. While the Transformers continue to be featured in live-action films from Paramount, they’re also returning to animated series. Sadly, one recent series has just concluded, with its final two episodes airing after first debuting in 2022. Transformers: Earthspark, which ran for four seasons, has ended its run, with Optimus Prime and Megatron both making their final appearances.

If you haven’t seen Earthspark, the animated Transformers series on Paramount, it differs from previous shows in several ways. The most noticeable change is its use of modern computer animation, creating a look and feel similar to Transformers: Beast Wars. The series, which recently concluded, was clearly designed for younger viewers and ended with a positive outcome for the Autobots and their human friends, Robby and Mo Malto. Though geared towards kids, the show included some unexpected twists, particularly involving one of the Decepticons.

Throughout the animated series, Megatron unexpectedly teams up with the Autobots, turning against the Decepticons. Now under the command of the villain Soundwave, the Transformers are also battling the Quintessons – a frightening alien race deeply connected to the history of Cybertron. Although Earthspark has concluded, the Transformers universe will continue, with plans for a more mature series in the works.

The Energon Universe is Coming

Earlier this year, it was unexpectedly revealed that a new animated series is in the works, expanding the Skybound comic book universe known as the Energon Universe. This project, a collaboration between Robert Kirkman’s Skybound and Hasbro, will bring the Transformers and G.I. Joe together once more. Though a release date and initial preview haven’t been announced, many believe the show will likely premiere on Amazon’s Prime Video, given the popularity of Kirkman’s Invincible on the platform.

Paramount is still developing a live-action movie that would combine the worlds of Transformers and G.I. Joe. Although Chris Hemsworth is set to star, there haven’t been any updates on when the film might come out. This project shows the studio remains committed to creatively expanding the Transformers universe. Even though Transformers: Earthspark may not continue, the Autobots and Decepticons will definitely be back in future projects.
