Zack Snyder is a director famous for big, visually stunning films like 300 and Watchmen, as well as superhero movies like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. Because of his unique style, fans are eager to know if he’ll ever work on another DC Comics movie.
There’s a glimmer of hope that Zack Snyder might return to Netflix. Although Netflix appears to have ended its relationship with Snyder on projects like the Army of the Dead series and Twilight of the Gods, a future collaboration isn’t entirely off the table.
Following a personal loss, Zack Snyder departed from his work with DC, and Warner Bros. decided to take the franchise in a new direction. Snyder quickly found a new home at Netflix, signing a deal to create projects exclusively for the platform. However, that partnership has recently stalled, with Netflix quietly canceling future installments of Snyder’s Army of the Dead universe, including the planned sequel, Planet of the Dead.
Netflix recently made a major deal to acquire content from Warner Bros. Discovery, which could position them to control DC properties, including projects related to Zack Snyder’s vision for the DC Universe (often called the SnyderVerse). After the positive reception to Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max, fans began campaigning for future SnyderVerse projects to move to Netflix, as the director already had a working relationship with the streaming service.
Now that Netflix has acquired Warner Bros. Discovery, about four years after the popular release of the Snyder Cut, fans are hopeful for a revival of Zack Snyder’s vision for the DC Universe. The merger suggests big projects are on the way, potentially including a reboot of the SnyderVerse.
Snyder has worked extensively with Netflix recently. Now that Netflix is handling DC content, some executives might consider reviving Snyder’s vision for the DC Universe, as it could be profitable and satisfy a large, dedicated fanbase who are actively requesting it.
Okay, so with the whole merger thing, it sounds like Netflix is really going to focus on the DC Universe. Warner Bros. has already put a ton of money and trust into it with James Gunn and Peter Safran now running the show at DC Studios, so it makes sense they’d want to make a splash with it on Netflix too.
Snyder to Collaborate with Army of the Dead Actor on Next Project
A new action movie, currently called Deviants, has been announced. It’s being described as a high-energy lesbian action film and will star Tig Notaro, known for her roles in Army of the Dead and Star Trek: Discovery. Notaro previously worked with the director on Army of the Dead and has shared her experiences collaborating with him.
I’m always eager to build a connection with the director and my fellow actors, to share those little moments where we can all acknowledge the absurdity of what we’re doing,” Notaro explained. “I especially felt that was crucial for this film, and in a strange way, it reminded me of other experiences where that connection was key.”
I really needed to feel connected to the people I was working with, and Zack and his team provided that for me. When I feel that connection, I’m much more comfortable and able to do my best work. I hope they’re pleased with what I’ve contributed.”
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is currently streaming on HBO Max.
