Netflix Just Quietly Added A Notorious Sci-Fi Flop You’ll Love To Hate

Everyone is currently talking about Netflix. The biggest news is that they’re potentially buying Warner Bros. Discovery, a major Hollywood studio with a huge collection of popular movies and shows. This would be a massive step, showing Netflix is determined to become a leading force in the entertainment industry and influence its future. This is all happening as the final season of their hit show, Stranger Things, is being released. The first part of Season 5 is already available, with the second part coming soon, and Netflix is keen to keep viewers engaged in the meantime.

With the huge popularity of Stranger Things, Netflix is actively seeking out more science fiction content. They recently added The Host, a 12-year-old film based on the novel by Stephanie Meyer. The movie was released hoping to follow the success of the Twilight series, which also adapted Meyer’s books, but it wasn’t nearly as popular. In fact, it received very negative reviews, scoring only 10% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie The Host centers around Melanie, a young woman fleeing aliens who have taken over most of the human population. These aliens erase people’s personalities when they invade their bodies, but in Melanie’s case, the alien and her human consciousness struggle for control. While the ending suggests there’s more to the story, it’s difficult to fully appreciate that due to several silly and confusing scenes. However, The Host does have one redeeming quality that makes it worth a watch.

Saoirse Ronan Gives It Her All in The Host

Saoirse Ronan is now a well-known actress, appearing in critically acclaimed films like The French Dispatch and Little Women. But in 2013, she was still building her career. Although she’d already received an Academy Award nomination for her early role in Atonement, she hadn’t fully established herself. The Host gave her a chance to showcase her talent, and she delivered a remarkable performance even though the movie itself wasn’t particularly memorable.

Saoirse Ronan received a Teen Choice Award nomination in 2013 for her acting, but Kristen Stewart, who was then very popular after playing Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, won the award. While neither actress became a regular at the Teen Choice Awards, it wasn’t due to a lack of work. Both Ronan and Stewart have gone on to become major stars, and Stephenie Meyer, the author of Twilight, deserves some recognition for helping launch their careers.
