I’m so excited about the potential return of Malcolm in the Middle! When it ended back in 2006 after seven seasons, it really left a hole for a lot of us fans. It was such a different kind of sitcom – the narration and the realistically flawed characters were just brilliant. Ever since I heard rumors about a revival next year, I’ve been eagerly waiting for news, and now Disney+ has confirmed it! Though, it sounds like there’s a catch, which is a little disappointing. Still, I can’t wait to see what Malcolm and his family have been up to!
Hulu announced the return of Malcolm in the Middle with a teaser on Instagram Friday, confirming the revival, titled Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, will arrive in 2026. While a specific release date wasn’t revealed, the post did share that the revival will be a limited series consisting of only four episodes. The caption described it as a ‘special four-part event,’ likely disappointing fans who were hoping for a longer season.
The Malcolm in the Middle Revival Teaser Pays Hilarious Tribute to the Original Series
Even though the revival won’t have many episodes, the short teaser trailer is sure to cheer up fans – and probably make them laugh. The teaser shows someone getting their back shaved in a kitchen, and the hair clippings on the floor cleverly spell out the title of the special. This is a clear reference to a classic scene from the original Malcolm in the Middle, where Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) shaved Hal (Bryan Cranston)’s back. Along with the title – which is a line from the original theme song, “Boss of Me” by They Might Be Giants – the revival is clearly tapping into nostalgia while promising to show us what the Wilkerson family is up to now.
The revival will bring back most of the original cast, including Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Catherine Kaczmarek. Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield are also returning as Francis and Reese. However, Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey, won’t be back – he left acting in 2010 and is now studying for a master’s degree at Harvard. Caleb Ellsworth-Clark will take on the role of Dewey instead. The new season will also introduce some fresh faces: Anthony Timpano as Jamie, Vaughan Murrae as Kelly, and Keeley Karsten as Malcolm’s daughter, Leah.
