Okay, so after a really rough decade, it looks like EA is finally shutting down one of their biggest flops. I mean, they publish huge games like Madden and FIFA (now EA Sports FC), and Battlefield, but they’ve definitely had some stinkers. Remember Mass Effect: Andromeda, the Star Wars Battlefront II launch, and Battlefield 2042? Those were all pretty painful. Well, it seems like the game that’s probably been the biggest mess for them is finally getting pulled from the servers next month. It’s been a long time coming, honestly.
It’s really sad to see Anthem go. I remember being so excited when it came out in early 2019 – BioWare, the studio behind Mass Effect and Dragon Age, was trying something new with a live-service game. But honestly, it just didn’t click. The gameplay felt repetitive pretty quickly, even though some of the stuff was fun. It just couldn’t compete with games like Destiny 2 and Warframe, and people started losing interest fast. BioWare tried to fix it with a big rework, but eventually they realized it wasn’t worth the effort and just stopped updating it back in 2021. It’s a shame, because it had potential, but it just never really came together.
Despite being playable for four years, the game Anthem will soon be unavailable. EA announced in early 2025 that it would be permanently shut down in early 2026, and that time is now near.
So, it’s official – Anthem is going offline for good on January 12, 2026. As a fully online game, that means once the servers are down, it’s completely unplayable, even if you own the game. It’s a bummer because unlike some other EA games that still let you play solo after the servers shut down, Anthem won’t have that option.
So, if you’re even a little curious about Anthem, you should really jump back in soon. Let’s be real, the game is pretty much over, but it’s interesting to see where EA went with it. Honestly, if you don’t give it another shot in the next few weeks, you’ll miss your chance forever. It’s kind of a piece of gaming history at this point.
