Warning! This article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Execution.
Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen kicks off with the movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Execution. The movie starts by quickly reminding viewers of the events of the Shibuya Incident, then continues with two new episodes that directly follow Season 2. This acts as a connection between seasons and sets up the exciting Culling Games arc. Keep an eye out for a quick mention of Kinji Hakari! Anime-only viewers might remember him as a third-year student briefly mentioned in Season 1. But for those familiar with the manga, this is a hint that a popular character is about to appear. Hakari is set to bring a unique energy to the series – he’s powerful, confident, and adds a much-needed dose of humor, making him unlike anyone we’ve seen in Jujutsu Kaisen so far.
I’m so hyped for Hakari to finally show up in the Culling Games! I really think he’s going to shake things up and add a whole new layer to all the connections and power struggles we’ve been seeing in the Jujutsu world. It’s going to be amazing!
Hakari’s Powers Stand Out, Even Among the Most Talented Sorcerers

I was so excited when we finally got a tiny mention of Hakari! It happened way back when Gojo was checking in on Yuta during his overseas mission in Africa. Gojo, clearly sensing some huge trouble on the horizon, told Yuta to protect the other students, especially Yuji. But then he specifically said not to worry about Hakari – that Hakari could take care of himself! Considering this came from Gojo, the strongest sorcerer, it’s a massive statement about just how powerful and capable Hakari is, even though we haven’t even seen him fight yet. That one little comment instantly made me realize Hakari is someone Gojo genuinely respects and trusts, and that’s huge!
Viewers who only watch the anime might not realize how this moment connects to a subtle hint from the first season. However, Gojo’s calm reaction to Hakari creates a sense of mystery and makes us wonder who Hakari is and why Gojo trusts him so much. This is a classic storytelling technique from Gege Akutami, where important characters are gradually introduced before becoming central to the plot later on.
Hakari stands out from other sorcerers in Jujutsu Kaisen. Unlike characters like Nanami and Maki, who are reserved, or heroes like Yuji and Gojo, Hakari is laid-back and does things his own way. He’s motivated by what benefits him, and this playful, slightly mischievous personality, combined with his incredible strength as one of the strongest Grade-1 sorcerers, makes him a truly unique character.
What truly makes Hakari so powerful is his unique domain expansion, “Idle Death Gamble.” Unlike most domain expansions that simply boost a user’s abilities, Hakari’s relies entirely on luck and probability. When he activates it, he essentially plays a high-stakes pachinko game. If he wins the jackpot, he gains access to an unlimited supply of cursed energy for a little over four minutes. During this time, he becomes virtually unkillable because he can use a temporary healing ability – Reverse Cursed Technique – something he normally can’t do, unlike incredibly powerful sorcerers like Satoru Gojo and Yuta Okkotsu.
Hakari fights differently than almost any other sorcerer, making his battles incredibly exciting to watch and crucial to the story. He doesn’t rely on raw power; instead, he wins by cleverly using probabilities and taking advantage of openings – a unique style that, combined with his charismatic personality, is sure to make him a beloved character.
Hakari’s Role in the Culling Games is Central

The mention of Hakari in the Jujutsu Kaisen Execution arc isn’t just a casual reference—it’s a clear hint that he’ll play a major role in the upcoming Culling Games. The end of Execution prepares us for familiar characters to enter this dangerous tournament created by Kenjaku, but it also introduces several new, powerful sorcerers. Hakari is set to be one of the most important, and his introduction has been years in the making. The Culling Games require sorcerers who are strong, resourceful, and willing to break the rules—and Hakari’s unique abilities and independent nature make him a perfect fit. His interactions with characters like Yuji, Megumi, and Yuta during the Games will likely change their relationships and create both new partnerships and conflicts.
Hakari, like the now-missing Gojo, often clashes with the more traditional leaders due to his unconventional approach to sorcery and his willingness to challenge the established order. Now that Gojo is sealed away, it falls to students like Hakari, Yuta, Megumi, and Maki to carry on his vision of a better world, one not controlled by old-fashioned power struggles and politics.
Everyone is incredibly excited to finally see Hakari in action during Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen. Fans are especially eager to see his character design, how his powerful abilities look animated, and how he’ll shape the story. He’s expected to live up to the hype Gojo created, and become a fan-favorite character.
