Vecna Becomes Stranger Things’ Greatest Hero in This Shocking Season 5 Finale Theory

Okay, so I just came across this wild theory about Vecna – Henry Creel – and it’s completely changing how I see the potential ending of Stranger Things! Apparently, some fans think he might not actually be the villain at all, but maybe… the hero? It all started with Jamie Campbell Bower’s introduction as One in season 4 – the first of Brenner’s experiments. We saw how Eleven sent him to Dimension X, which is what turned him into the terrifying Vecna we know. It seemed pretty clear he was the big bad, controlling everything from the creatures to the Mind Flayer. But this theory suggests there’s a lot more to the story. Just a heads-up, though – if you haven’t finished season 5 or read Stranger Things: The First Shadow, you might want to skip this, because it’s full of spoilers!

For a while, it’s appeared Vecna wants to conquer our world as revenge for being stuck in the Upside Down. But a growing theory suggests his actions aren’t about being evil. Instead, he might be using Will Byers, Holly Wheeler, and other kids in Hawkins to travel through time (according to @brendaanngerman). Vecna could be trying to go back and prevent himself from being trapped in the Upside Down in the first place, which would undo all the terrible events in Stranger Things.

How This Vecna Theory Changes His Stranger Things Story

Fans of the stage play Stranger Things: The First Shadow already know the full story of Henry Creel and his connection to Dimension X, going back to his childhood. Before becoming a prisoner in Hawkins Lab, young Henry was exploring caves near Rachel, Nevada – the same caves featured in Stranger Things season 5 – when he was unexpectedly transported to Dimension X. After spending 12 hours there, he returned different, with changes in his blood that gave him psychic powers. This experience set everything that happened in Stranger Things in motion.

We don’t yet know how Vecna might travel through time in the final season of Stranger Things, but if he went back and prevented himself from entering the caves in Nevada, it would erase everything that’s happened in the show. Eleven and the other kids wouldn’t get their powers, Will wouldn’t be taken to the Upside Down, the alternate version of Hawkins wouldn’t exist, and all the tragic deaths we’ve seen would be avoided. This would essentially reset the timeline, which could create new problems, but it would allow the kids of Hawkins to have normal childhoods.

Recent episodes have dropped several clues suggesting a popular fan theory might be true. These include references to the movie Back to the Future, like Robin exclaiming “Great Scott!” near a Flux Capacitor, and a signal registering at 88 decibels. It’s possible Vecna is collecting children to use them as a power source for a wormhole – a concept hinted at by teacher Scott Clarke. This could potentially turn Vecna into an unlikely hero in Stranger Things, though it wouldn’t necessarily make up for his past actions.
