Hideo Kojima is known for consistently creating high-quality games, but he admits he’s uncertain about his upcoming project, OD, which is being developed with Xbox.
Hideo Kojima recently discussed his future plans with Ananweb (as reported by Automaton) following the release of Death Stranding 2. He clarified that despite the new trailer potentially suggesting a typical horror experience, the game is actually going to be quite unique and unlike anything players might expect.
He explains that he’s not ready to reveal what it is, and isn’t sure if it will be successful. They’ve created unique games in the past – things like hide-and-seek or delivery-based challenges – but the underlying technology is similar to what’s already out there.
Kojima explains that with OD, they’re trying something new, a service that goes beyond the usual platform structure. He admits it’s likely to be a difficult project.
Most fans believe Kojima Productions’ next game will be ‘OD’, as their other project, ‘Physint’ (made with PlayStation), is still in the very early stages. Horror director Jordan Peele is collaborating with Kojima on ‘OD’, but currently, it’s only confirmed for Xbox Series X|S. However, with Microsoft recently releasing games on multiple platforms, there’s a strong possibility ‘OD’ will also come to PS5.
During a discussion about Physint, Kojima playfully suggested he could create it even in his sleep, given its focus on espionage. He explained that the real difficulty lies in innovating with fresh ideas and blurring the boundaries between cinematic storytelling and interactive gameplay.
Kojima Productions is exploring the idea of hiring filmmakers as full-time staff members to work on ‘Physint,’ rather than just having them appear as actors. However, because development is still in its early stages, it’s likely this game won’t be released until the PlayStation 6.
