Take-Two Interactive is clearly very impressed with the Perfect Dark project The Initiative was working on. They’ve recently hired both Darrell Gallagher, the former head of The Initiative, and Brian Horton, who was directing the game.
So, some background to this story first.
As you might remember, Microsoft stopped working on the new version of Perfect Dark earlier this year and closed the development studio without releasing any games.
However, a report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier showed that Take-Two nearly rescued the project, but negotiations failed because the two parties couldn’t agree on who would own the intellectual property.
According to Schreier, Take-Two Interactive has hired key developers from the cancelled Perfect Dark project and created a new studio as part of 2K Games. This strongly suggests they plan to revive the game, likely with a different title.
It looks like they’ll need to completely rebuild everything, meaning it could take years before we see results. Still, the initial demo was encouraging, so we’re hoping they can actually release a finished product this time around.
