In a shocking turn of events, 87% of Asia’s high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) are now holders of digital assets, with a staggering 60% planning to up the ante even further.
The rapid maturation of the digital asset space in the region has left many scratching their heads. What was once a niche investment option is now seen as a core pillar of the portfolios of the rich and powerful across Asia.
Crypto is No Longer Just a Trend, It’s a Staple for the Wealthy
The findings come courtesy of Sygnum’s APAC HNWI Report 2025, which surveyed over 270 high-net-worth and professional investors across 10 markets in the Asia-Pacific region. And the results are clear: digital assets have cemented their place as a fundamental component of long-term wealth strategies.
It turns out, 87% of these investors already own digital assets as part of their portfolios. But wait, it gets juicier-49% of them have allocated more than 10% of their wealth to crypto, with the median exposure sitting comfortably in the 10-20% range. And here’s the kicker: 60% of them are gearing up to increase their stakes even further. Talk about going all-in!
“The wealthy in Singapore and beyond aren’t just dipping their toes-they’re diving into the crypto waters with full force. Their long-term, risk-tolerant investment strategies are fueling their deep dives into digital assets, particularly within the safe confines of Singapore’s MAS framework,” Lucas Schweiger, the report’s author and Sygnum’s Research Lead, quipped.
Wealth Preservation Is the New Crypto King
As we dig into the data, one thing becomes abundantly clear: it’s not all about short-term speculation. A full 90% of respondents now see digital assets as crucial to preserving wealth over the long haul, and as a key component of their generational planning. Gone are the days of the hype-driven trading frenzy-the new game is diversification, baby!
And don’t get too comfortable with the same old strategies. HNWIs are getting a taste for sophisticated products-think actively managed crypto strategies, outsourced investment mandates, and yield-enhanced goodies that complement their traditional wealth. They’re not just in it for the ‘quick bucks’; they’re thinking about the next generation of billionaires.
Oh, and the traditional wealth managers better keep up or risk losing clients. We’ve already seen some wealthy US investors pull their money out of advisors who don’t offer crypto. It’s no longer a “maybe” for the big banks-it’s a “when” situation.
“Singapore’s MAS and Hong Kong’s advancing regulations have set the stage for private banks to jump on the crypto bandwagon. The question now is: not if, but when will they adapt?” said Gerald Goh, Sygnum’s Co-Founder and APAC CEO.
ETFs Are Getting a Major Makeover-Bitcoin and Ethereum Are Just the Beginning
The thirst for diversified exchange-traded funds (ETFs) is becoming unquenchable. A whopping 80% of survey respondents now want ETFs that don’t just stop at Bitcoin and Ethereum. Enter Solana, which has caught the eye of 52% of investors. Other rising stars include multi-asset crypto indexes (48%) and XRP (41%).
Here’s the real kicker-70% of these savvy investors would happily throw more money at these ETFs if they could get a little extra yield through staking. Cha-ching!
But before you get too excited, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. A number of investors are proceeding cautiously due to market volatility and unclear regulations. You know, minor details like custody concerns, security issues, and licensing headaches.
Even so, long-term confidence in crypto is sky-high. 57% of HNWIs and 61% of ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs) are bullish or strongly bullish on the crypto market’s future. Crypto’s seamless integration with traditional finance has them feeling secure in their digital investments.
And as for the future? Goh predicts that APAC will continue to be a dominant force in the digital asset world, and it’s only going to get bigger as the region charges toward 2026.
