Jim Ward, a voice actor and radio personality from the United States who worked on many video games and animated shows, has died.
This comes via his radio co-host Stephanie Miller, who shared the news on social media.
He was 66 years old and passed away after battling health problems. He had been living with Alzheimer’s disease and also contracted COVID-19, which led to his retirement in 2021. The specific cause of death was not revealed.
Alan Ward has done a lot of great voice work, but he’s probably most famous for being the voice of Captain Qwark in the popular Ratchet & Clank video game series from Sony.
He contributed his skills to several other popular games, such as Grim Fandango, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Batman: Arkham Knight.
He’s also well-known for his voice work in popular cartoons like The Fairly Odd Parents, Danny Phantom, and Ben 10, among others.
Unfortunately, Troy Baker wasn’t able to voice Captain Qwark in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, so Scott Whyte took on the role. However, the game’s developer, Insomniac Games, paid tribute to Baker’s many years of playing the character by including a Qwark statue in the end credits. The statue holds a microphone engraved with his initials, ‘JW’.
