Remedy Entertainment has revealed the sequel to Control, officially titled Control Resonant. The studio has been discussing a follow-up for years, aiming to expand its interconnected game universe. While clues appeared in the Alan Wake 2 DLC, we haven’t seen much of the game itself – until now. This new look gives fans a clearer idea of what to expect when Control Resonant releases next year.
The first trailer for Control Resonant was shown at The Game Awards. While it shares the same visually striking style as the original Control, Resonant largely breaks new ground. This time, players will control Dylan Faden, brother of Jesse Faden, the protagonist of the first game. Dylan wakes up from a coma – the one he fell into at the end of the original – only to discover Jesse has disappeared. Armed with a new weapon called the Aberrant, he sets out to find her and confront a rising global threat.
The next installment of Control, titled Resonant, will expand beyond the Oldest House and into the streets of Manhattan. While not a fully open-world game, it will be structured similarly to the original Control. Remedy promises that Manhattan won’t just be a familiar city, but a transformed and unsettling environment where the laws of physics are broken, and reality itself is warped into a terrifying landscape.
“This Isn’t a Safe Sequel”

Before the official announcement of Control Resonant, Remedy director Mikael Kasurinen shared insights with ComicBook about how they approached the sequel. He explained that the team intentionally avoided making a predictable follow-up, instead focusing on significant changes to the original Control’s gameplay. This means Resonant will be much larger in scope than Control, and will also include unexpected elements that might surprise players.
Kasurinen highlighted a major change coming in the sequel, Control Resonant: a greater focus on RPG elements. While the original Control had some RPG aspects, it was primarily an action game. The new game will shift this balance, though Kasurinen didn’t share many details about how extensive these RPG systems will be.
In terms of gameplay, Remedy is moving away from the third-person shooting of the original game and focusing more on close-quarters combat. Dylan’s main weapon, called the Aberrant, can transform into different melee weapons—much like Jesse’s Service Weapon in Control. The trailer shows off a massive hammer and a set of blades that Dylan uses to fight enemies. While the total number of weapon variations isn’t known yet, it’s evident that Resonant will offer a significantly different gameplay experience than Control.
Ultimately, Control Resonant demonstrates Remedy Entertainment’s commitment to innovation. Whether they’re delving into survival horror with Alan Wake 2 or creating a multiplayer shooter like FBC: Firebreak, Remedy consistently pushes boundaries and challenges itself. Resonant is their newest attempt to do just that, all while expanding the story and world of the Remedy Connected Universe.
While a specific release date for Control Resonant hasn’t been announced, it’s currently planned for 2026. When it launches, it will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Mac.
