Wizards of the Coast Unveil New Dungeons & Dragons Game Warlock

Dungeons & Dragons is a hugely popular and well-known tabletop role-playing game, and its world is perfectly suited for video games. Baldur’s Gate 3 wasn’t just a great D&D game, it was considered one of the best games ever made. Now, the creators at Wizards of the Coast are working on a follow-up. We already knew about a more relaxed Dungeons & Dragons game in development, but at The Game Awards, a new and promising project set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe was revealed. The team at egmr.ru recently had the opportunity to learn more about it from Invoke Studios and Wizards of the Coast.

Warlock is a new third-person action-adventure game set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons, promising a magical experience filled with swords and spells. Players will take on the role of Kaatri, a character brought to life by actress Tricia Helfer, who embodies the powerful Warlock class from the tabletop role-playing game. While details are currently limited, the developers at Invoke Studios plan to release the game in 2027, with a full gameplay reveal expected in the summer of 2026.

Kaatri is a Warlock, meaning she’s made a pact with a powerful magical being. We don’t know who this being is yet, but it’s a key part of the story and how the game is played. Like the Warlock class in tabletop RPGs, Kaatri is very charismatic, allowing players to influence the story through their interactions with the world and other characters. The developers at Invoke Studios say you don’t need to know Dungeons & Dragons to enjoy Warlock, but the game does draw heavily from that universe’s established stories.

Warlock is an upcoming open-world action-adventure game with a deep and engaging magic system. This magic isn’t just for fighting; it will be used to solve puzzles and explore the game world. The developers seem to be drawing inspiration from popular titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, God of War, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Players will experience the game as Kaatri, a single character, meaning it won’t have the party-based gameplay found in games like Baldur’s Gate 3.

The trailer strongly suggests that Kaatri’s powers come from the Raven Queen, a major goddess in the world of Dungeons & Dragons. This is supported by the black feathers shown in the teaser, and the Raven Queen’s well-known hatred of the undead. Fans also believe Kaatri will be a Hexblade, a class that combines both physical and magical fighting styles – something the game’s creators have hinted at.

It’s common for popular franchises to expand into different forms of entertainment, and Dungeons & Dragons is no different. With the success of TV shows based on games like Fallout and Halo, it’s natural to see a tabletop role-playing game become a video game. Using an existing, well-known brand instantly gives a project a built-in audience. However, it also carries the risk of disappointing fans if the adaptation doesn’t stay true to the original material. Wizards of the Coast will need to strike a careful balance with Warlock.
