Geoff Keighley, the host of The Game Awards, usually closes the show with a sneak peek at a game that’s still a long way off. But this year, he decided to highlight a game that will be released in just a few weeks.
Highguard is a free-to-play first-person shooter created by Wildlight Entertainment, a studio made up of developers who previously worked on popular games like Apex Legends and Titanfall.
This online game combines fast-paced shooting with raids where players compete against each other. What makes it really different is that you can ride horses – it’s a surprising addition alongside all the futuristic weapons and sci-fi style.

Here’s the official blurb:
Highguard is a new team-based shooter from the creators of Apex Legends and Titanfall. Players become Wardens – powerful gunslingers who battle for control of a magical continent. Teams will ride into combat, fight for a key artifact called the Shieldbreaker, and then raid enemy bases to claim territory. It’s a fast-paced, competitive experience unlike anything you’ve played before.
Given the team’s experience, the game feels very polished and reliable, though it doesn’t necessarily break new ground with its gameplay.
Game director Chad Grenier explained that they founded Wildlight to create a game studio where designers have full creative control and new games can be developed without limitations.
Creating and maintaining popular games like Apex Legends and Titanfall gave us valuable experience in building a lasting franchise.
I’m so excited – the game comes out in just over six weeks! It feels like we won’t have to wait too much longer to finally get our hands on it and see what it’s all about.
But has this got the chops to make a name in a crowded field? Time will tell.
