Platinum Trophy #3: Tales from the Borderlands
Date Earned: 9th May 2017
Dopamine Index:
I’ve tried playing Borderlands a few times now, but honestly, it just hasn’t clicked with me. I can’t really explain it, I just don’t enjoy it as much as other games.
Honestly, it’s not even the jokes that bother me, and I know some people really struggle with that part. I actually dig the way the game looks – that cartoon style is cool – and I think the idea of a shooter where you’re constantly finding better loot is a really solid one.
In my opinion it’s just a bit of a clunker.
From what I’ve played so far, the controls didn’t feel very good, and I found the menus and user interface confusing.
I’d likely enjoy the newer games more, as they probably offer a smoother and better gaming experience. However, with so many games available, I’m hesitant to spend time on one that might not be great.
Despite not enjoying most of the main games, I really like the spin-off, Tales from the Borderlands, which was developed by a separate team.
I tried it out because it was a free game offered with PlayStation Plus a while back. I’d heard positive things about it, but it was my first time playing a story-driven game from Telltale, so I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy it.
I was really impressed by how good the game’s story was. Even though I didn’t know anything about Borderlands beforehand, I quickly became invested in its world and characters.
This was my first experience with Telltale’s storytelling style, and I really enjoyed it. I loved that my choices actually mattered, affecting both the story and my relationships with the characters, which made the experience feel personal.
To be honest, I don’t remember the game in great detail, but thinking about it now brings back specific images, characters, and a really good feeling.
Despite being set in a world I wasn’t particularly interested in, Tales from the Borderlands stood out from the rest of the series and offered a surprisingly engaging and enjoyable experience.
I haven’t discussed the trophies much because they’re quite simple to earn. You can actually get the platinum trophy just by completing the game.
Getting the platinum trophy wasn’t especially challenging or satisfying, and that wasn’t what I was aiming for. I simply really enjoyed playing Tales from the Borderlands, and the platinum felt like a fun bonus.
Cheers, Tales from the Borderlands.
Just throwing it out there, but doesn’t Robert from Dispatch really resemble Rhys? I’m probably not the first to notice, but it’s pretty striking!
It’s not a perfect comparison, but I’ve definitely seen characters who were much more different from each other.
