Throughout your adventures in Where Winds Meet, you’ll encounter many bosses. Some of these bosses will reappear as regular enemies later on, but others, like the God Of Avarice, are exclusive to the campaign and can be fought without any special preparation.
After Qinghe, you’ll reach Kaifeng, which features a unique storyline. A key part of this story involves battling the God Of Avarice, a boss you’ll be ready to face around level 54 as you progress.
God Of Avarice’s Boss Fight Location

When you arrive in Kaifeng and explore the central area using the map, you’ll discover a large city filled with buildings and two markers indicating where to find campaign bosses. If you follow the main storyline, you’ll first battle the Dao Lord, whose marker is located in the bottom right corner of the city.
The story progresses to the Furnace of Righteousness quest, where you’ll infiltrate the large furnace you’ve seen throughout the game. This culminates in a battle against the God of Avarice, and it will likely become clear who the real villain behind the region’s problems is.
How To Beat God Of Avarice
The fight against the God of Avarice will be different from others because it has three stages. Interestingly, the final stage isn’t a traditional battle. Aside from these stages, the boss doesn’t use many special attacks, making them fairly easy to learn.
Here’s what you can expect from this boss during each phase:
Phase One
In the first stage of the fight, the God Of Avarice primarily attacks with a weapon in one hand, using close-range attacks. However, these attacks are slightly slower than what you might be used to from other battles in Where Winds Meet. This timing difference can cause you to try and deflect too soon, leaving you vulnerable to damage.
When this boss attacks in close combat, try pressing the deflect button slightly later than you normally would to match the timing of their attacks. The boss will also occasionally summon an orb that shoots small projectiles. You can easily avoid these projectiles by dodging, and then dodge the boss’s attack while the projectiles are still flying.
The God Of Avarice typically attacks while its projectiles are still traveling, so you need to dodge both at the same time.
During this part of the fight, the boss might float into the air and position himself in the middle of the arena. If this happens, quickly get as far away from the center as possible, then begin moving from side to side. This will help you avoid the boss’s attacks, including any lasers he fires.
Getting hit by this laser will trigger a noticeable animation and cause significant health loss. The boss is fairly easy to defeat in the first phase, and if you learn his attacks, you can quickly move on to the next stage.
Phase Two
Like most fights in Where Winds Meet, you’ll probably find the second phase of this boss the most challenging. He’ll start using two weapons, giving him a new range of close-combat attacks. Occasionally, he’ll combine the weapons for a single attack that’s similar to what he did in the first phase.
The most challenging part of this phase is when the boss creates a lot of money piles, then slams them down, causing massive damage everywhere. You can easily see the attack coming, but it’s crucial to dodge it – it can instantly defeat you, particularly if you haven’t upgraded your equipment.
It’s generally best to be well-equipped for this battle, and boosting your stamina a little will also help.
During this fight, the God of Avarice uses two different spinning attacks. He’ll either spin towards you while wielding his weapon, or throw the weapon directly at you. You can block these attacks by repeatedly pressing the defend button, but be careful – sometimes they appear as unblockable yellow attacks.
While fighting, you can collect money piles to earn ten Echo Jades each. However, grabbing money will fill up a greed meter on your screen. If you collect three piles, the meter will max out and leave you stunned for a significant amount of time. Also, when the boss is close to defeat in this phase, it will protect itself with a yellow coin shield.
You can simply hit the boss or deflect his attacks to get rid of it quite fast.
Phase Three
This last part of the fight is unique – you can’t attack the boss directly. Instead, you need to avoid their attacks until their weapon glows red. When you see that glowing red eye, shoot it with your bow to remove one-third of the boss’s health or shield. Repeat this process three times to win the battle.
While you can usually block his attacks when he uses this ability, he also creates golden followers. These followers control an area, making it dangerous to approach and effectively preventing you from getting close without taking damage.
