The new Street Fighter movie features beloved characters from the classic video game franchise, including Ryu, Chun-Li, and M. Bison. Early looks at the film show that some characters closely resemble their video game counterparts, while others have been updated. We’re taking a detailed look at each character in the movie and comparing their designs to the original games, starting with the fan-favorite, Dan.
17. Dan Hibiki – Andrew Schulz

Okay, so I just got the scoop on the Street Fighter movie, and honestly, I’m intrigued. They’ve cast Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, which is…a choice! Dan’s always been the goofy, underdog character in the games, and it sounds like they’re leaning into that. Apparently, they’re keeping his signature pink outfit and that iconic long ponytail, but beyond that, they’re really reimagining the character for the big screen. It’s a big departure from the game version, but I’m cautiously optimistic about seeing what Schulz brings to the role.
Dan’s outfits emphasize his role as a playful alternative to Ryu. In the games, he sports a pink uniform with purple accents. The movie takes this further, dressing him in a complete pink suit. Despite the updated look, Dan remains as goofy and fun as ever, which is perfect for his character.
16. Vega – Orville Peck

Orville Peck’s portrayal of Vega stands out as one of the most unique adaptations of the character compared to how he appears in the video game. This is partly because we only see one visual representation of Peck’s Vega – he’s depicted wearing a longer purple jacket over a black shirt in promotional materials and footage.
He has the familiar waistband, but it’s gold instead of red. We might also see the return of his yellow and blue pants, and thankfully, the iconic mask and hand claw are still there. Removing the jacket or a costume change could make him look even more like the original, but right now, this gold sash is the most noticeable difference.
15. Balrog – 50 Cent

Let’s talk about Balrog, the boxing powerhouse, who’s being brought to life by 50 Cent in this movie. Right off the bat, they nailed his look – that iconic hairstyle is instantly recognizable, and he’s sporting those classic red boxing gloves. They’ve made a slight tweak with his shorts, opting for a different shade of blue than we usually see, but it still works. Overall, a faithful recreation of a fan-favorite character.
This change actually works well, giving Balrog the appearance of a contemporary boxer. However, the new look is quite different from his original design, mainly due to the removal of his sleeveless shirt and the altered color of his boxing trunks.
14. Chun-Li – Callina Liang

Chun-Li is a fan-favorite character, and Callina Liang looks impressive in the role based on early looks at the movie. The costume stays true to the iconic blue design from the games, and it actually appears a bit more polished on screen. The biggest change is to the top – the bulky, puffy shoulders have been removed in favor of a sleeveless style.
The bangles have been swapped for bracelets, and the pants are now a darker shade instead of light brown. Her hair is now a solid dark black, and she’s removed all the white accessories. Overall, it’s a very stylish update, but it’s a noticeable change from the initial design.
13. E. Honda – Hirooki Goto

E. Honda’s video game appearance seems simple enough to recreate in a live-action movie – it mainly consists of his blue and white fighting trunks and red face paint. Surprisingly, though, neither of those iconic elements has appeared in the film adaptation.
He might wear the full costume later in the movie, but so far, photos of Hirooki Goto as E. Honda only show his hairstyle and a simple white mawashi – he’s not wearing any of the character’s signature face paint yet. These two missing elements are the most noticeable differences, which is why this version of the costume is worth mentioning.
12. Zangief – Olivier Richters

Similar to Vega, Zangief’s appearance in the movie might differ from his usual look, as his initial design is quite simple. In the film, actor Olivier Richters wears a red shirt under an open vest. This is a change from the video game version, where Zangief typically wears red trunks with a gold belt, wristbands, and boots.
The facial resemblance is really accurate, as both depictions feature the iconic fauxhawk and full beard. If the movie version of Zangief ever removes his shirt and vest, the similarity to the game character would be even more striking.
11. Don Sauvage – Eric Andre

The first trailer shows Eric Andre is perfectly cast as Don Sauvage. While the on-screen look differs a bit from the game, it still captures the same overall feel. For example, Sauvage now wears a dark red suit instead of gold, and the poster doesn’t feature his signature American flag top hat.
Aside from minor details, the poster closely resembles the original, even showing Andre with the bullhorn decorated with the American flag. While he might wear a different suit in the movie, the overall style remains distinctly Sauvage.
10. Joe – Alexander Volkanovski

Joe’s style isn’t overly complex, and Alexander Volkanovski largely recreated it for the film. The red jeans, star-shaped belt buckle, and blonde hair are all there. While the grey tank top is missing, it doesn’t detract from the overall impression. Overall, the transformation to resemble Joe was done very smoothly.
9. Juli – Rayna Vallandingham

Juli’s costume is a fresh take on the classic design, and it looks great! Rayna Vallandingham’s outfit includes a dark blue jacket and shirt matching her in-game suit, complete with the signature orange tie. She also kept the hat and red gloves. While it’s not an exact replica, it strongly resembles the original. However, if you compare the details closely, there are some significant differences.
8. Akuma – Roman Reigns

Akuma is likely to be a central focus for viewers, given his long-standing popularity within the franchise. Although the trailer only showed a brief appearance by Roman Reigns as Akuma, the character poster reveals a much clearer look, and it’s clear many of Akuma’s defining traits have been incorporated into the film.
While Roman Reigns’ Akuma costume isn’t as damaged as the one in the game, it looks much more used and worn. The design also includes details like his belt, hand wraps, and prayer beads. He retains his signature red hair, but the gi is a darker, almost black, shade compared to the brighter purple seen in the games. Despite the differences, it’s clearly Akuma, and we’re excited to see Reigns perform as the character.
7. Blanka – Jason Momoa

Okay, so when the Street Fighter movie was first announced, everyone immediately wondered how they’d pull off Blanka. He’s such a wild character, and translating him to live-action seemed tricky, even with Jason Momoa in the role. But honestly, after seeing the character poster? Those worries have pretty much vanished. Momoa is Blanka – green skin, that iconic orange hair and those claws… it’s a surprisingly great look, and I’m much more optimistic now.
It’s still early, but he looks really promising! Even small details, like the chains around his feet shown on the poster, add to the realism. The biggest update is his necklace, which looks fantastic, and we’re excited to see Blanka in action on screen.
6. Dhalsim – Vidyut Jammwal

Fans will be excited to see Dhalsim come to life in the new movie, and Vidyut Jammwal is perfectly cast in the role. He looks just like the character from the video game, complete with the iconic red paint and traditional arm and leg wraps.
Instead of the rough, restrained look from the source material, this movie version of Dhalsim sports more elaborate jewelry. He’s traded in taped limbs for shiny bracelets and a skull necklace for a more decorative one—the meaning of which will likely be revealed in the film. Despite the changes, he’s still recognizably Dhalsim, and fans will be excited to see him unleash his signature fireball attack.
5. M. Bison – David Dastmalchian

David Dastmalchian, a popular actor, is playing the villain M. Bison in the upcoming movie, and early looks at his costume are impressive. While M. Bison has worn different outfits in the video games, his signature look—a long red jacket, black belt, red and black hat, and red cape—is being faithfully recreated for the film, with a few minor changes.
Dastmalchian’s take on the character moves away from the classic, brightly colored costume and opts for a more military-style jacket, though it still features the signature red color. He pairs this with a black belt, gold buckle, and black gloves, along with the iconic red and black hat. While the exaggerated shoulder pads are gone, elements of them are incorporated into the cape for a more streamlined and realistic look. It seems the villainous Bison that fans know and love from the video games will maintain his familiar appearance in this latest live-action adaptation.
4. Cammy – Mel Jarnson

Fans also love the portrayal of Cammy, with Mel Jarnson looking like she stepped right out of the video game. Though not her most famous outfit, this costume is a remarkably accurate translation from the game to the movie, and Jarnson even includes details like the long braid and bangs from the original character. It’s almost flawless – there’s really nothing to critique.
3. Guile – Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes’ portrayal of Guile is nearly perfect, both as a character and in terms of his appearance. The iconic flat-top haircut is the most noticeable detail, but the green tank top, pants, and dog tags perfectly capture the character’s look from the video games. While the outfit isn’t overly complex, the movie nailed every single detail, making it a standout recreation.
2. Ken – Noah Centineo

The movie is bringing Ken, one of the game’s most recognizable characters, to life with actor Noah Centineo. The film has perfectly captured Ken’s classic look – his red uniform, black belt, and blonde hair – staying true to the iconic design fans know and love. While the character design is simple, it’s instantly recognizable and has remained popular for good reason. Centineo also embodies the character’s energy and appearance, and we’re excited to see him alongside Ryu on screen.
1. Ryu – Andrew Koji

Every successful movie franchise relies on getting its iconic characters just right, and for Street Fighter, that means nailing the character of Ryu. Fortunately, Andrew Koji, who plays Ryu in the upcoming film, will be a faithful representation of the character fans already know and love.
Koji perfectly captures the look of the video game character, wearing the classic white uniform, red gloves, and bandana. He even looks like he could easily defeat anyone, which really embodies Ryu’s intimidating presence, making him a great portrayal of the character.
Street Fighter rolls into theaters on October 16th.
