2025 was a fantastic year for anime fans, with the return of three major franchises to theaters. While Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle was the year’s biggest hit, and Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution built excitement for the next season, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc ultimately proved to be the stronger film overall. Some viewers prefer Demon Slayer, but its story felt better suited for a full television season rather than a movie. The Chainsaw Man Reze arc, however, translated perfectly to the big screen.
As a huge fan, I have to say MAPPA really knocked it out of the park with the Chainsaw Man movie! It starts off feeling really relaxed and fun, like a typical slice-of-life romance, but then builds to what is honestly the most incredible animation I’ve ever seen from them. It’s been out for streaming since December 9th, and the fanbase has been going wild, picking up on all sorts of little details. One thing a lot of people missed in theaters – and it’s so clever – is a subtle countdown sequence right before Denji and Reze’s big fight. It’s a brilliant way to build tension!
Chainsaw Man Movie Is So Amazingly Animated That You Can’t Absorb It in One Watch
Someone noticed a clever detail in the film: the lights in the buildings subtly change with each scene cut, creating a visual countdown leading up to the fight between Reze and Denji. What a fantastic touch by Yoshihara!

MAPPA has quickly become a leading animation studio, known for adapting popular series like Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, Vinland Saga, and Chainsaw Man. The studio consistently raises the bar with its animation quality, and its latest project, Chainsaw Man – The Movie, had particularly high expectations due to its larger budget and cinematic release. The movie has proven to be MAPPA’s most visually impressive work yet, exceeding those expectations.
The impressive quality is noticeable even in small details, like the countdown from ten, which is cleverly shown with the lights in the background. Many viewers might have overlooked this during their first time watching, as the final battle is incredibly detailed with so many animated layers and frames. This shows the animators’ dedication to making the sequence as good as possible, and it’s a key reason why the Chainsaw Man movie stands out as the best-animated anime film so far.
The first season of Chainsaw Man received some criticism for its animation in a crucial fight scene, but the new movie suggests the series is improving. Fans are now more optimistic about the future of Chainsaw Man, and can enjoy the movie at home. Many are calling it the best anime movie of 2025, though that could change with the release of new seasons.
