The Game Awards have passed, and fans are still waiting for news on Half-Life 3 from Valve. While it wasn’t announced at the show, reports suggest Valve originally aimed to release both Half-Life 3 and the Steam Machine in Spring 2026. However, rising costs for RAM apparently caused them to reconsider those plans.
Mike Straw from Insider Gaming recently shared on their weekly podcast that he knew a potential release date but held off on reporting it. The date has now passed, and it seems the information wasn’t fully confirmed at the time, which is why he didn’t publish it.
I’ve talked to so many journalists and content creators who’ve been looking into this, and every date they’ve been given, every rumor they’ve chased… it all points back to Half-Life 3 being the game that would launch with the Steam Machine. The crazy thing is, we still don’t know when the Steam Machine is actually coming out, but everyone’s convinced that’s the plan!
As a PC builder, I’m really frustrated with RAM prices right now! Apparently, according to one expert, they’ve skyrocketed – like, 200, 300, even 500 percent higher than they were back in October, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to get any better soon.
We were originally aiming for a Spring 2026 release for the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller, alongside Half-Life 3. The game is definitely happening – it’s no longer a question of if, but when. We expected an announcement in December, but some issues arose. I’m now concerned that the hardware release might be delayed beyond the originally planned timeframe of late in the first quarter of 2026.
When questioned about the reliability of his sources, particularly with any recent developments, Straw explained that these aren’t just random people – they’ve provided him with accurate information in the past.
I’m getting this information from the same reliable sources who previously provided accurate details about Madden and the Lord of the Rings game I reported on. These aren’t just anonymous tips – they’re consistent contacts, and they continue to insist that Half-Life 3 will be released this spring.
Until Valve officially confirms it, the sequel many fans are hoping for will likely stay just a dream. However, the sudden drop in reports and rumors coinciding with rising RAM prices does lend some credibility to the idea that it’s in development. For now, all we can do is wait for an announcement.
