It’s Time to Admit My Hero Academia’s Ending Didn’t Deserve So Much Backlash

After nine years, the anime series My Hero Academia has finished airing, following the conclusion of the original manga by Kohei Horikoshi, which ran for ten years and ended in August 2024. The anime’s final season premiered in October 2025 and impressed viewers with its dynamic animation during the climactic battles. The story wrapped up with a touching, though somewhat sad, epilogue showing what happened after the long war against the villains. While the anime finale has been well-received, the manga’s ending received a different reaction from fans.

It’s only been a year since the manga ended, but fans are still talking about the strong negative reaction to the finale. Many were upset that Deku lost his powers, especially considering the story focused on his path to becoming the world’s best hero. Others were disappointed that he didn’t end up in a romantic relationship, which is common in Shonen Jump series. Despite the complaints, the series is still incredibly popular, and it seems like the finale received more criticism than it deserved.

My Hero Academia’s Epilogue Was The Perfect Closure to The Story

Unlike many popular shows that quickly reach the end, this story took its time. Even after the main battle, seven chapters were devoted to exploring what happened next and the future of the characters. The final conflict unfolded slowly, giving each character a chance to come to terms with events. The series didn’t gloss over anyone’s story, whether it was Ochako Uraraka’s difficult fight with Himiko Toga or the ongoing issues within the Todoroki family.

The story also did a great job of showing how Katsuki Bakugo grew as a character – something the author, Horikoshi, had been developing for ten years. The war’s consequences were harsh, and the world of heroes underwent huge changes while trying to rebuild. Though many heroes died or retired, they ultimately made way for a new generation to rise up.

Deku Losing His Quirk Ended a Brutal Cycle

The ending of the series sparked debate, especially when Deku seemingly lost his powers, leading many to think his time as a hero was finished. However, this turned out to be a turning point, setting him on the path to becoming the world’s greatest hero. Now, he’s teaching at U.A. High, training the next generation, and a recently released book, Ultra Age, revealed he’s currently ranked fourth on the Hero Billboard Chart. Although the specifics of his powers’ return remain unknown, he still retains a connection to One For All.

All For One created a unique power, One For All, which ultimately became the only way to defeat him. Throughout history, heroes who inherited this power faced immense hardship because of its weight. One For All existed solely to overcome All For One, becoming unnecessary once the villain was gone. This also signaled the end of a long, painful cycle, with Deku being the last to wield it. Importantly, the story concluded by showing that Deku didn’t need this inherited power to become a top hero; he could achieve greatness on his own.

I’ve always been impressed by his combination of high-tech equipment designed to replicate his abilities, and his natural talent for strategy. He’s incredibly brave and always steps up when things get tough. All his training under All Might clearly paid off – it really molded him into the hero he’s become. Plus, he has such a strong grasp of quirks, able to quickly figure out what makes each one strong or weak – that would make him an amazing teacher. The series consistently highlights how vital it is to develop new heroes, because society always needs courageous people fighting for what’s right. Even though the ending wasn’t flawless, it felt complete and satisfying – everything was wrapped up nicely.
