A popular PlayStation 2 game from 2005 is back! It’s now available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can download it for free. Otherwise, it’s available for purchase on the PlayStation Store. If you enjoy fighting games, this updated version of a classic is definitely worth checking out.
Project Soul and Bandai Namco are working with Sony to release an updated version of Soulcalibur III. It’s a little strange that this fourth game in the series is coming out before earlier installments like Soulcalibur II (from 2002), but it’s not entirely new for the series. Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny, a game from 2009 for the PSP, was re-released in a similar way. Overall, the way these games are being released has been a bit unusual.
What’s New
So, I’m super excited to hear that Soulcalibur III is coming back to the PlayStation Store! It’s part of the PlayStation Classics collection, which means they’re bringing back a bunch of older games. The cool thing is, it’s getting a little upgrade – they’re upscaling the graphics, and adding features like rewind and quick save. Plus, you can mess with video filters. But honestly? It’s still the same Soulcalibur III I remember from 20 years ago, and that’s awesome!
PlayStation describes the game as a journey where a destined individual rises to become a warrior, and through their deeds, becomes a legend. Soulcalibur is a classic fighting game series centered around weapon-based combat, challenging players to master unique fighting styles. The game’s ‘Chronicles of the Sword’ mode blends real-time strategy with traditional fighting, while ‘Soul Arena’ offers both quick matches against the computer and special challenge missions.
You know, it’s kinda weird – sometimes Sony will re-release older games, and they’ll make them exclusive to PS Plus Premium, or at least for a little while before everyone can buy them. We saw this happen with Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny a while back. I’m wondering if that’s what’s going on here, but honestly, there haven’t been any hints either way.
